Chech: Just finished reading day 3 and must say your photos of the falls are some of the best pictures I have ever seen. Have been to Niagara Falls and as you say they don't come even close in beauty and size. Thanks for your day 3 tales. Purvis

Chech, thank you for the tale portion about the Delta and Tigre (and pictures), I have never done that, and too bad you could not go to Uruguay, it would had been nice, have never been either.

I didn't mind not getting the side trip to Uruguay. I have my eye on a tour by Eldertreks that starts in BA, flies to San Juan in the interior and goes north to Bolivia and Atacama over 22 days. That tour includes the day trip to Colonia...so I figure I'll get there sooner or later.

Chech: Just finished reading days 5&6. Looking forward to the rest of your tour tales. I noticed that you are planning on being at West Edmonton Mall (WEM) sometime in Sept. If you have the time I would like to meet with you and take you out for lunch. I live just a 20mins. bus ride from the mall. Don't want to interfere with your plans but if this is possible perhaps we could arrange this at a later date. Purvis

Right now, getting to the mall to get a pair of jeans is hopeful thinking...desperate hopeful thinking...LOL. I don't know what's on our plate for that day. There may be a city tour and briefings for the cruise (likely to teach some people how to stay warm..lol). I'm just hoping they give us time at the mall en route if there is a day tour....otherwise it's too far for me to go from the hotel airport. We fly north to Yellowknife then to Kugluktuk the next day. I'll know when I get the documents sometime next month.

Yeah...my head isn't wrapped around the Arctic cruise yet. Looking forward to starting that research in the next couple weeks. At least I finally learned how to spell the name of the first stop yesterday....Kugluktuk....LOL. Day Seven is up.

Beautiful, thanks Chech. I'm so glad you liked this part of Argentina, I grew up on the"pampas", and although I lived in the city most of my school years and adult life, I was never too far of scenes like this, had my own horse at my grandfather's farm and spent many summers watching the gauchos do their job, especially at "yerra" time, which is the marking of the cattle, great festivities, lots of people and food. Thanks again, it was lovely to read your impressions.

That ranch experience was the best choice to see the area and the gauchos! The research there paid off big time. I just put together a short video of the gaucho's demonstration that can be viewed here and I edited the Day Seven to include the video instead of the three pics. It's HD, so you can expand it to full size to really get a good look at his face in some of the frames. It's beautiful!

I will send the link to a friend so she can feel a little nostalgic as well! Seeing the pampas always bring happy memories, I haven't gone to Argentina in 15 years, but one of the things I enjoyed was just watching the scenery as we drove. Thanks again Chech. Maybe is time for me to plan a trip. Sorry about the taxi experience, I heard there is a lot of that.

What a coincidence, yesterday afternoon we watched TV5, a French channel during a big thunder storm. It was about Argentina, I think we saw the last half of the program,, it showed a similar clip with a gaucho and his horse, we were amazed. It was a different gaucho and a horse with a black head. It also showed a train ride into the Andes.

Yeah, the taxi thing could happen anywhere....but wait till you hear about the next morning in Day Eight. ML...it's so good as a video isn't it? Never thought to flick to video for it but happy I kept snapping through the whole demonstration. His face in the closeup when he is lying with the horse still gives me goosebumps.

And I have to say............that video is pretty much the most amazing part of this tale. Don't know where you get the time and imagination to do something like that. Just wonderful and the format of this tale is top dog.......err, I mean top cat!! Keep it coming! ........not gonna say what his face does to me.....wow

I redid the gaucho video with music I'm sure is copyright free. The new one is a little shorter and is here.

He said it means "work" I believe. Was he pulling our legs? Cause, boy, did we work. The same hike is available in their summer and that would be easy for just about anyone.

I guess it could be the translation in Chile, to me it means "let's go" or "walking" (as andiam in Italian? 'Andiam, andiam, mio bene, a ristorar le pene d'un innocente amor!" Don Giovanni )
"ando" is the first person present tense of the verb "andar". With the subject pronoun understood, it means "I walk".
In Mexico, I think, "andale, andale" is a form of saying "stop lazing around, and start working" Oh well, maybe "moving forward"?

He might have said walk and not work. He had a bit of an accent.

Perhaps. One of the best looking guide of all the tours I have taken was Rodrigo, in Chile, I see his picture from time to time, but the picture doesn't do him justice, his accent was so lovely and sexy! He had all the girls (young and old) following him around...
