Chech: Wait until you see the bus service for the locals. When I was in Cuba in 2005 I saw the flatbed of a farm type wagon with benches for the customers to sit on pulled by a very tired and old horse. So much for communism and the Castro brothers . The influx of American tourist can only be a good thing for the people of this island. Antique car dealers would have a buying spree if they could buy the vehicles on the streets of Havana.

I’ve been to Cuba twice, but both times I stayed at a resort. I’m looking forward to reading your tale and hearing about a tour of Cuba. I’m sure it’s a very different experience. Have fun!

Tiffany: You are so right. Both times I was in Cuba I stayed at a lovely resort but since I was with my son who had brought boys baseball teams to the island to play the Cuban children we did get out and about away from the controlled resort areas. It is really two different worlds. Our two busses were the most modern I have ever been on . A striking comparison to the transportation the locals had. As tourists we had a different Cuban currency than the locals therefore able to buy articles in stores that the Cubans could only wish for. Hopefully these wonderful people will get a better life in the near future. PURVIS

Both times I was in Cuba, I did things off of the resort, however, they were organized tours. It’s still not the same as a tour of the island. The first time I was there, we had to use the Cuban Peso as our currency, but the second time, they only wanted US dollars, which we thought was interesting considering that US citizens were banned from Cuba.
I think things will start to change for Cuba once Americans are allowed back into the country. Hopefully they will change for the better.

So looking forward to Chech's tale. She needs to enjoy all the warmth as she can as returning to Canada in January will no doubt be very cold. Ready for Spring here in Michigan!

Thanks! T'is chilly but I love it. Looking forward to a snowstorm tomorrow. I had eight hours in Pearson waiting for my flight and was able to finish the initial draft of the tale. I have to upload the photos first but I should start posting days within the next couple or three days. Now it's time for bed.

Chech, what does "chilly" mean in Fahrenheit terms? Love the pic of the sleeping kitty. So cute! Did you go snorkeling or diving in the Sea when in Cuba?

No time to go swimming in Cuba. Those that did only took quick dips in hotel pools. Working on the tale now that I'm unpacked and my driveway is cleared. Hopefully I can start posting days soon.

Chech: I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Have read your Cuban travel tour for the trip from St. John's to Cuba but can't seem to be able to pick up day one (Havana). Let me know what I'm doing wrong please. Purvis

Chech: Thanks for your quick reply. At my age (81) I thought I had finally lost it. With dementia in the family it is always on one's mind when you can't do things that seemed so easy before. Old age is not what it's cracked up to be believe me. Purvis

No problem. I'm aiming now to put out a day every morning starting tomorrow. I want to upload the photos simultaneously to flickr as I can caption them more thoroughly if I upload them as I post the tale. I'd hoped to have day one up today but my allergies hit me like a brick in the face last night. I had stopped taking my anti-histamines when I got back but this is the first time it's hit like this in winter. I just want to curl up on my couch and sip on tea and decongestants.

It's just allergy-sinus head. Gives me an excuse to stay inside and work on this. LOL I was just surprised that it hit me so hard at the height of winter. Day One is up.

I hope you are feeling better, Chech. Thank you for a fascinating tale of Havana. A question, did you say you exchanged 300 Canadian dollars for 195 convertible Cuban pesos?? The woman in the tower reminds me of Mary Poppins, don't remember seeing the one on top of the Giralda. Very, very interesting, looking forward to more. I have to smile at the mention of the "embargo", though....

Chech: Have been to Cuba twice but never had the chance to see any of the places you mentioned on your first day travel tour . Going on a vacation package really doesn't let one see the real Cuba. Looking forward to the rest of your tour tale. Purvis

Yeah, we spent two nights in an all-inclusive and found it very isolating from the community. I'd go stir crazy after a day...LOL Day Two is up.

Yup! No blackout now. Great game...rather it come down to the wire than be a blowout. They never seem to do well in Denver cause of the altitude so I'm not surprised. Gonna be tough for Denver to take down Carolina I think.

Yes, I don't have any hope for the Broncos, I have seen them lose too many Super bowls. Cardinals are catching up a little but I don't think they will beat the Panthers. Loving your tale, Cuba will change soon, hopefully.
