Sorry Chech but as you say in your blog, Adelaide is a planned city, but it was designed by the first surveyor-general of South Australia, Colonel William Light NOT Lightfoot. It the city where I was born and lived for the first 22 years of my life.

What an interesting read. I used to have an uncle & aunt living on Kangaroo Island and spent a school holiday with them back in the mid 1950's to late 1950's. I can't remember the exact year and I only visited them that one time. I do remember that the yucca plants had very sharp leaves and if you happened to brush past them, you received many cuts. There were plenty of those plants on my uncles property at Parndana. At least I think that is what it was called. Since then, KI has become a great tourist destination but way back then, it wasn't one.

Sorry to be picky chech, as I love your tour tales BUT there is no King Street in the CBD of Adelaide. King William Street is the main drag from north to south. Mind you, your RAH info was a bit of an eye opener. The hospital is expected to cost more than two billion dollars when it’s complete. All six hundred and eighty rooms are private. It has forty operating theatres and will require more than two thousand staff. It is one of the most expensive buildings in the world.
Actually the new hospital is a PPP (Public Private Partnership) This Agreement will see SA Health continue to provide all core clinical services, staffing, teaching, training and research, while the State’s private sector partner finances, designs, constructs and then maintains the new hospital facility and provides nonclinical services.
I just wish local guides giving out info were 100% accurate. AS for your quote :As I like to say, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.: I have to agree 100% and here in Australia, and I'm sure in many other parts of the world, that saying is so true. I just hope local/federal governments agree if it's relevant to their situation.

Nice pics of the rock formations. Surprised that everyone got off them safe and sound. Well now I can continue my day as I've had my tour tale fix. Purvis Those four seals sleeping made such a perfect pictures. I bet they weigh a lot. So cute to see them lined up on the beach one right after the other. Reading this day and looking at all the wildlife made me think that this is one of my favorite days of your trip.

Keep it coming, Pauline. I have to work off handwritten notes and when I'm travelling, I write like a doctor...LOL Anything you see that isn't right, let me know. You've explained why the W was sitting next to King in my notes...LOL And if it's okay for you, I'll use your explanation of the hospital. That's spot on. And yes...I know guides can be wrong. I try to check as many details as possible. For my Swiss tale, the guide had insisted that people who refused to join the army were stripped of their Swiss citizenship. It may have been the case at one time, but years ago, they introduced a public service for them to contribute without joining the army. I sent the link to him and I know he read it but he didn't dispute that point. You know...some days I'd just love to take a city tour here at home to hear what they're telling people. LOL

Chech, I am starting to worry about you. Please tell me that you didn't have Subway sandwiches two days in a row, i.e., day 17 and day 18?? Nice architecture in Adelaide!!

It was right around the corner from the hotel...so I had it for dinner the first night, lunch the third day and dinner the third day.

What a killer. Having it twice in the same day. Unbelievable. Oh well, guess you know the product and price of their items and they taste pretty much the same world over.

The subs are filling and for fast food, it is one of the best choices. I like to have mine stuffed with green pepper, onion, spinach, cucumber and carrot if they have it. Can't get that with a Big Mac.

Just finished reading days 19-20 and enjoyed your video of the dance . Didn't know much about Fiji and so am happy to get an education of that country. Thought it was only one island not many. The homes that are shown in your photos look very primitive but the people look so happy. Thanks for the time you take to make your travel tales available to those of us who will never get to the places you write about. By the way I have been to Cuba and the people there are mostly poor but wonderful. Purvis

Great reads Chech. Do they still have the models of 'paper' boats on the river in Adelaide? And did you happen to see the Japanese Gardens - they were one of my must sees when we went there!

No. Didn't see the boats or gardens. Or at least the driver didn't point them out. LOL Day Twenty-two is up. The last installment is tomorrow.

What a great way to celebrate your 50th! Great underwater pics, Chech. what a lovely day you had and something to hold in memory to recall when current life is dreary or cold. Thought you might like a pic of the Adelaide boats And this is what we saw the first day in Adelaide at Glenelg beach

Chech: I can sympathise with you when you are more interested in finding the nearest WC than anything else. This problem hit me two years ago while visiting the art gallery at Trafalgar Square and thus I didn't get to see many works of art but did get familiar with the women's WC. I blamed poor food handling the evening before at the McD's in Waterloo Station but really not too sure not that it really mattered. I now carry meds in my wallet at all times while travelling . Better to be safe than sorry. I can't believe a baby could cry for 8hrs. I wonder if the problem was ear related. I have been on many flts. when infants start crying upon the plane descending and since I have ear problems can relate to this. Thanks for the time you took to give those of us who will never get to visit the sites of your last tour. Purvis

solaria, I don't know how I missed seeing the pics that you posted from Adelaide. I love the paper boats and I can imagine them being on the Torrens River, as it's such a 'gentle' river, where it runs through Elder Park. The camel ride on Glenelg beach is certainly a new thing since I last visited there. Or maybe not, as Glenelg is not a beach that I would go to. Just because I never lived near it. I had a 30 minute ride on a camel out of Jaisalmer in India a couple of years ago and have no desire to get on that animal again.
Love your photos.

Pauline, I road a camel both in Australia and Petra. My fanny was fine when I got off the Australia ride but hurt for quite a while when I got off the Camel in Jordan. It was a little scary when the animal sat down to let me off. I screamed so loud because I thought I was going to fly off the front of the camel. My TD told me when he heard that scream he knew it was me and forgot to tell me that the ride could be a little rough. Oh well, never again !!

I went on a camel ride in Morocco, and it was an experience. My camel had a mind of his own, and didn’t want to follow the group. He kept trying wonder off on his own. That being said, it was still fun, and I’d probably go on another camel ride if the opportunity was there.

Love your photos. Hi Pauline Glad you liked the pics. The boats and the camel might not be there anymore. We were there in 2009. That's why I asked Chech if the boats were still there, as I really liked them. As I said before, I also really enjoyed the Japanese gardens also. Had a lovely 8 days in Adelaide and surrounds and would like to return as some stage.

Yeah, in retrospect, it was a good time for it to happen. I missed nothing and was fairly well prepared for it except for the lack of Eno which has been added to my travel pharmacy. And another live-saver (and I hope this isn't 'too much information') but I now take some Depends with me....and yes, that saved me the morning I left. LOL I'm working on the photos and have some up for Sydney to Uluru section. They can be found here and the rest should be up by the end of the weekend.

Nice picture of Belle Island. For some reason the map on the airplane showing the route from Vancouver to Sydney shows Melbourne as Sydney. That was strange to see. Most likely a programming error by the Airlines.

It's Sydney. You can clearly see the south coast where Melbourne is between the Y in Sydney and the edge of the yellow circle. Sydney is inside the yellow circle.
