I enjoyed seeing and reading about the Shrine of Remembrance. I missed seeing this shrine back in 2001. Oh, well, maybe sometime and my life time I will return to Melbourne.

LOL...no, never saw the Cats ad there. I thought it was "the only good possum is roadkill" And "The only good cat is an indoor cat!"
Depends what country you are in!

As long as you don't forget to include the limo, private jet and helicopter I took you in to show you the sites of southern Tasmania all will be good! Probably best to leave out the fine dining as it will only make the others jealous and it might show up Oz, and we don't want to upset him!

Nice try,Tassie, but way ahead of you. Did you offer Chech breathtaking views from one of the tallest buildings in the Southern Hemisphere, with the dining extravaganza of caviar, wine and coffee? * * An easy thing to offer somebody who doesn't eat seafood or drink alcohol or coffee. Just bring her into contact with some carefully placed cat posters etc and your private jets and fancy stuff pales into insignificance....

At the very risk of sounding like it was a competition, but Chech was shown breathtaking views from an elevation that far exceeds the height of the tallest building in the world let alone one of the tallest in the southern hemisphere and it very well could have been from a flying machine, aka, a helicopter or plane!

Wow Tassiedevil. I am really looking forward to Chech's post of her time in Tasmania. Sounds like she was truly treated as a V.I.P. What fun!!

As I don't live in an Australian "state" I'm loving the "state' rivalry comments.

Yes, Pauline. We often forget to include them when we draw the map of Australia and leave Tasmania off .... ... So we let them think they're the mainland and we're the island.

There's no rivalry, Melbourne is my second home. Now if I lived in Sydney, another story all together!

Yes, Pauline. We often forget to include them when we draw the map of Australia and leave Tasmania off .... ... So we let them think they're the mainland and we're the island. Depending on what definition you want to use, we both live on an island!

Chech, can you elaborate more on your statement, "apparently the kangaroo can pick the sex of the joey". Can a kangaroo have multiple births at one time? Or do they just give birth t one child at a time. Do you mean if there are multiple births that the kangaroo will more likely choose a male to keep in it's joey than a female child??

No, apparently the mother can actually choose the sex of their joey. The mechanism isn't known yet but studies are finding evidence to support it and finding that evidence in a number of mammalian species, not just kangaroos. A product of evolution that enables them to produce either males or females depending on the environment, food availability etc

The females can also delay birth of their baby, until their previous Joey has left the pouch. This is called embryonic diapause.

Glad you like. And yes, Oz and Tassie really added a lot to the visit...and they treated me to a fine dining experience that covered my three favorite things - pizza, root beer and chocolate! Day Sixteen is up.

Chech: About a year ago they started to paint pictures on our utility boxes here is St. Albert AB. I think it was to stop the street-artist with their graffiti . One in my area is of " Flanders Field Poppies" and is really lovely. Purvis

Yeah. There's a paint out there now that can't be vandalized. If one paints graffiti over it, they can easily wash off the graffiti without affecting the art below.

Yeah, it was a far more perilous climb than it appears. When I got a close look, I had no idea how they got to the top. It was risky. I have another five days to go with this tale and then I have to post all the photos to flickr. At this rate, I'll be in Cuba before I finish.

Ah Mt Lofty! When we were there it was Easter - early April, so nice and warm in Adelaide but up the hill cold, misty drizzle so I purchased a nice warm jacket with Mt Lofty emblem on the front left. Best purchase I ever made and great coat for walking on the beach in Winter. We don't get snow up here but cold south west wind goes right through you unless you have agood coat! We also went to Hahnsdorf - twice!
