5 ~~~~~ Take a Look Inside Buckingham Palace Before the $455-million Renovation ~~~~~
The historic palace has 775 rooms.
Buckingham Palace will soon begin a massive renovation on the royal residence that could cost 369 million pounds, or about $455 million over the next decade.
With its 19 State rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms, the palace has served as the official London residence for the royals since 1837.
The palace has hosted heads of state throughout the world and served as a residence for Queen Elizabeth II.
The queen has reportedly preferred other residences over Buckingham, however, and the renovations will attempt to bring it up to par.
While critics of the high price tag were quick to accuse the queen of mismanagement of funds, iTV news reported that the palace has not been rewired since the 1950s.
The palace is often used for diplomatic functions, from state dinners to high teas, and the health of its facilities should reflect that of its nation, according to proponents of the project.
Before construction begins, however, you can check out the splendor and evolution of the luxurious interiors of this royal residence throughout the years. www.travelandleisure.com/culture-design/architecture-design/buckingham-palace-renovation
