Chech: Thanks for the lovely tour of the NWP. I really learned a lot especially how difficult it must have been for the early explorers who tried to find the passage. No wonder so many of them died in their attempts. Purvis

No wonder so many of them died in their attempts. Purvis Yeah. The hardships must have been horrific. Imagine leaving for the Arctic knowing it could take 3 or 4 years to return...and only having two or three months at most in which they would be able to sail in ice-free waters....sometimes less. Absolutely amazing. I just noticed that next years' itinerary for this cruise has changed. They've removed the most northerly stops like Grise Fjord and Qaanaaq so I'm guessing they've had too much trouble getting into these spots so late in the season. The cruise just before this one still goes that far north. If I were to repeat this, I'd do that cruise. And I was just checking the prices of the Antarctic cruise on this ship that is run by Quark. For me as a solo...twice the price for half the time. The Arctic was certainly the better choice.

I'm getting the whole tale combined now for publication and just added a section to the Fort Ross day on the Arctic Games. The video is worth the look.
