Well, a hectic couple of days. I left a day early because of Hermine. Even though the flights did get out after, I wasn't going to risk it, so for the sake of the $200 extra, I left Thursday night and got into Edmonton in the middle of the night. Slept late and then went to the front desk to see if I had to change rooms since I had booked that night myself and it turns out there are two Executive hotels in Leduc. I was at the wrong one...so I loaded up all my luggage and they shuttled me around the corner to the right one. I slept 11 hours last night only to have my watch wake me. Today, I'm going into Leduc to see Sully at the theatre and then we have our welcome meeting/finger food session.

Oh yes! I'm up to a dreadful 37lbs...and 13 on my carryon. I'm permitted 44 an 20 lbs. Oh...love the Leduc cinema (sitting here now). By far the most comfy seats I've ever sat in at a theatre.

What did you think of Sully? we saw it on Thursday, the first showing in NZ. Our local village has a boutique cinema with comfy couches and we can now get in on social senior low price tickets! Yes, I am now officially allowed that concession, but I used to get in on Eddies senior pass. We thought the film very well done and anyway we see all films Tom Hanks is in. Did you see Bridge of Spies? Another one based on reality - very thought provoking.

I thought it was well done. I liked how it focused on the human factor throughout. I think it might be an Oscar contender. I liked Bridge of Spies as well. The Leduc theatre seats were so comfy, I had to tell the staff how impressed I was. When you think of a small town theatre, you think of old cloth seats, sticky floors and smells. I guess they renovated it a year or so ago and what a nice job.

Chech: We here in Alberta aren't country hicks. Leduc was a very prosperous oil area before the oil crash. Sorry we didn't get to meet at WEM (West Edmonton Mall). Hope you have a fabulous trip trough the NWP. . Am looking forward to your tour tale and photos. Purvis

Why would anyone want to go to such a barren area?.

Why would anyone want to go to such a barren area?. That is a good question. Wonder if there isn't anywhere in the world that Chech doesn't have a desire to see. I think there are 192 countries in the world. Wonder how many Chech has visited?

I'm certain that once Chech is able to send along more photos, we will have a better understanding of how beautiful and enchanting the Northwest Passage truly is. And it didn't even make the top 10 list for most barren, desolate places in the World to visit listed below... 1) Tristan da Cunha, Southern Atlantic Ocean 2) Motuo County, China 3) Alert, Nunavut, Canada 4) Pitcairn Island, Southern Pacific Ocean 5) Kerguelen Islands, Southern Indian Ocean 6) Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland 7) Cape York Peninsula, Australia 8) McMurdo Station, Antarctica 9) La Rinconada, Peru 10) Easter Island, Pacific Ocean Chech's made a good dent in visiting a lot of the "barren" places on this list and by the time she's finished her travels I'm sure this list will be complete!

Brief note from Chech.......... "We're being plagued by bad weather. Have missed four landings and likely won't land today with 7 m waves." Unfortunately the internet is sketchy and/or expensive and she can't seem to connect to the forum, so she can't keep everyone updated, but I'm sure she is using some of the time aboard to work on what will be a fantastic tale with amazing photos (of the 7+ metre waves)

Had been wondering why we haven't hear from Chech on her present trip. It's sad when the weather disrupts your tour especially since this tour is by ship. I hope the weather improves so that the remainder of the tour can go ahead as planned. Puirvis

Hopefully, it's not a boat full of sea sick folks. Took a deep sea fishing trip off the coast of Florida years ago and the waters were so rough that even the kitchen crew was sick and tossing their cookies in the restroom. It was the fishing trip from HELL!!! Feeling bad for Chech right now. It was in my opinion a very expensive tour and hoping that the sea becomes calm so that she can enjoy her scheduled landings. Anxious to read her tale. Guess bad weather is considered an Act of God and she won't be given any compensation for the inconvenience caused by the bad weather.

No worries plane2catch.... Bad weather (or anything else, for that matter) seems to hold Chech back. She has a knack for making the most out of unpleasant situations and is one of those people that always "makes lemonade out of lemons"...lolol! As far as I can gather from the sketchy communication she is having a fantastic time, especially since she is not prone to seasickness! Lucky girl!!

Just looking at that picture could make someone sea sick. The North West Passage is not the friendliest of waters . Hope that the ship is sturdy . Purvis

Last summer I visited Scotland and we took a boat out to the Isle of Skye and I remember the waves being rough enough to cause a constant mist on the deck. We all went inside the cabin for viewing. That is great if Chech doesn't get sea sick. I know I always try to look at the horizon thinking that will help my stomach.

LOL...that's the trick plane2catch...keep your eye on the horizon and your feet firmly planted above decks! I lived on a 42' sailboat for 10 years and we sailed in all sorts of weather, a lot of nasty weather. Another trick was to steer the boat which my husband made me do if I ever felt queasy - which he knew would automatically keep my eye on the horizon. My Chase was a smart man! However, its unlikely Chech will get a chance to steer the Endeavour !

Boob when I lived in California I had a friend you lived on a boat he kept moored at the Ventura marina. The weather in California is warmer than where you live. What was that like living in the boat during the winter months? Or did you sail to a warmer climate when it got cold? I think it takes a special kind of person to live on a boat. Not a lot of square footage for roaming around. I use to go sailing on a 58 footer that a friend owned back in the 1980's. We made a lot of weekend trips out to the Channel Islands to go scuba diving. It was fun sleeping on the deck and viewing the stars.
Do you miss living on the boat??

Do you miss living on the boat?? LOL...Ten years was enough for me! The storms at our moorage space at Sailors Cove in Victoria BC were worse than anything ever encountered while at sea. Our huge boat rocked on its lines at dock many times while the storm force winds and waves whistled. I was more concerned with our two cats than anything but they turned into fine sailors/sailorettes. Chase and I both worked full time so we relied on weekends and holidays (he had six weeks, I had ten) for our sailing. We had planned on early retirement and then sailing wherever our will took us, but unfortunately we fell short of retirement when Chase passed at 56, one year prior to retiring. It takes not so much a "special" person, but a person with patience to live aboard...especially during the stormy seasons in Fall and Winter which can be extremely harsh in the inner harbour of Victoria. Even though we had a forward and aft cabin each with their own "head" with shower, its true...space is limited, but you certainly learn to adapt. There is a place for everything and everything has its place as the saying goes. And its true what they say "when you live aboard a sailboat you need the two heads to flush your money away". When something breaks or needs repair....$$$$$ x 2!! It was an adventure for sure and I can truly say now that I have my feet firmly planted on land and anyone mentions going on a Caribbean or Alaskan cruise, I develop a little headache!

I'm baaaack...and the Pats are 3-0. I'm happy. I didn't get enough time to put together the tale the way I wanted as I travelled so it'll be coming along soon. I've decided to do it a little differently this time as a day-by-day gets monotonous on a cruise. I'll focus on the ship, preparation and individual landings. In the meantime, I put together a sneak peek post that you can find here.

Chech: Welcome back . I just looked at your pictures and they are wonderful but then all your pictures are. I myself am off to London in 3days for a week of wandering around. Plan on catching up on your latest tour when I get back. After looking at your pictures the winter weather in NF/L would seem warm and friendly compared to the NWT. Purvis
