Holy cow, Owen...that's not a ship! That's norovirus on waves! I can't imagine being on a ship with 6000 tourists. So happy my Northwest Passage cruise has a max of 200 passengers.

Chech: Being on a cruise ship with 6000 other tourists is like sailing with a small town. It really is not my idea of a fun holiday . Is there any wonder that so many folks get sick while on cruises. We have all heard of "The Bus Bug" just imagine being on a ship with 6000 potential sick people the thought is unimaginable. It has been discussed that eating at buffets can be dangerous as others possibly not well people have touched the serving spoons the elevator buttons and the door handles. I prefer to take my chances with fellow travellers on busses. Purvis

Yeah, it's just mindboggling. I've been lucky on the bus. Out of the 20 tours, we only had two plague buses...and a third that hit some people near the end when another group joined us. On that occasion, a woman had gone on tour sick and made her entire group sick. And another nice part about that Arctic cruise is that it's in the Arctic. Viruses don't do well in the cold.

Royal Caribbean is a great cruise line; we went on one of their ships two years ago and it was a fantastic vessel and cruise package. (I still need to write a travel tale about it here; when I explain what's been keeping me busy lately I hope members will understand the delay).
The ship we went on was much smaller than this giant; we kept seeing some old faces onboard, as well as new people and it didn't feel as though the vessel was too big or too small. RC adopt a policy of requiring people to use hand disinfectants regularly and it's compulsory upon entering meals areas. Of course, that's not perfect.

The idea of being on a cruise with 6000 possible ill folk makes me sick just to thing of the potential. I have been on too many Trafalgar Tours where not everyone was well and have come home with several sickness that have put me in bed for many days and one which put me on a oxygen machine for two weeks. I don't mind taking risks but going on a large cruise ship is too much of a risk.

I've been painting my great room the last three weeks and the Sherwin Williams dealer was telling me that they've developed a paint that kills bacteria. That's be great on the walls of ships and hospitals. Though, I can't help but wonder what happens when the bacteria evolve with surviving bacteria passing on their resistance to the successive generations...then the ship would be Super-Norovirus on Waves.
