Hi SueC, I was in Wales in mid-2013 as part of a larger guided tour of Britain and Ireland. I can't really speak with first-hand experience of self-touring, but I can share some research with you. First, there are numerous tour companies that can take you through Wales. The large companies (e.g. Insight/Trafalgar, Globus) don't appear to have a Welsh-only product and only include Wales as part of a broader tour of the UK. That means you'll probably need to look at the smaller companies to see if they have dedicated local tours of Wales. Some possibilities are: www.welshdragontours.comwww.shaggysheep.comtravel.saga.co.uk/destinations/europe/uk/wales.aspxwww.homeatfirst.com/WALES.HTMwww.seewales.comwww.lynotttours.com/b-wales.htmIf you wish to conduct your own tour, renting a car would probably be your best option as you can travel at your own pace and make better use of cheaper accommodation, such as B&Bs. If you prefer to use public transport you could probably get to (or at least near) most places via bus. Arriva is the operator of Welsh bus and train systems. You could plan your journey using the following bus website: www.arrivabus.co.uk/walesTrain services operate mainly along the north and south coastlines and mainly link back into the English rail system. However, there are some inland rail lines that can connect you between north and south coasts (although you might need to travel briefly back into England to switch trains). The Arriva website for train is: www.arrivatrainswales.co.ukI think you'll need to conduct some research to achieve your aims here; I hope this points you in the right direction.

It's only a start, Sue. Researching to meet certain specific aspects of a holiday can be quite time consuming - some people (e.g. me) relish it, but others find it a chore. You have plenty of time on your side to further research your Welsh trip. I try to make my travel research a fun thing and after some basic fact-gathering, I present my findings to Mrs Oz to get her opinion. This extra input is really helpful and helps me refine the next stage of fine-tuning what the trip will be. Please feel free to ask for opinions here as you go through the process. There are plenty of members who will undoubtedly have good ideas to contribute.
