Merry Christmas to every member and guest of the Travel-Forum. It has been a big year of change for us, starting off again here after Trafalgar closed its forum. Thank you for participating here in a way that made my moderator's job very easy. Thanks to Owen for setting up all the travel tales section, it would have been a lot of work that is still ongoing. And of course, thanks to Oz-T for so quickly getting this forum started, designing the format and putting all the settings in place behind the scenes - I can confirm that there is a huge amount of work in doing all that. I hope that everybody has a wonderful Christmas 2014 and a great New Year in 2015.

I'd like to also wish everyone a great Christmas and new year. We will definitely benefit from all Owen's work in sourcing travel tales and preserving them for others to read. It was a task I had started on but there was no way I could have achieved it in the limited time we had before Trafalgar burned down its own house. Thanks Owen. And thanks to Admin who quietly works in the background to help ensure that the forum's security and content is properly administered. But the forum wouldn't exist without the members and guests who regularly join in here to read and/or contribute. In our 14 weeks of operation we've had over 3,000 posts and 100,000 views, and these activity levels remain fairly constant - so hopefully many people are still finding something here that interests them. Best wishes of the season, and I look forward to your participation here during 2015.

And a Happy New Travel Year!! Woooohoooo!! You know...I get more hits from this site on my travel tale posts on my blog than I do from FB or from Insight's board (combined). I get about one hit a day from here and maybe one a week from the latter two.

There would be 315 fewer hits if it wasn't for your gang showing so much interest, Chech......

Heh...here they are face on....and you're not far off on the colours. The pic in the frame on top is when they were 8 weeks old. They have the same pose in this pic...which was taken a few days before the tabby took her last ride to the vet. The black one went last week. So, we're actually down to 313 cats.

Oh, sorry to hear that, Chech. You sure must've looked after those two for them to have lived to such an age. Any plans to get a new kitten (or two)?

Nope...I have 313 virtual ones to keep me company. I'm good. LOL No cats makes it easier to travel so no plans to replace them....and it means I can visit my own province this summer. So easy to just up and go. I've offered my place to pet sit for family too so I can get my cat or dog 'fix' from time to time. I actually have my sister's dogs for Christmas (which is great timing) but that also means I don't get to stretch out on the couch yet...

We're actually more free to travel too, as our daughter moved out to her own home this year and took our two pups with her. I don't know how that all happened, but it could have been worse - she might have easily taken my car and the furniture! Our son had already moved out to set up home years earlier. So now it's just the two of us, sans kids and sans pets. Pretty quiet actually. And it's feeling strange to head off somewhere like we did a few weeks ago to Ayers Rock, and not think about whether pets are fed.

Ohhh...that's where the pups went! Do you still have visitation rights? Every second weekend at least? But yes...it is liberating. I'm actually planning what to do for the summer fall ... but can't book till I get that pesky spot excised. I'd like to be somewhere on my 50th bday....end of October. What are temps like in central/northern Australia then?

The pups are brought over once a week when our daughter visits. They jump out of her car and race to our front door with tails wagging furiously as if they haven't seen us for a year. Then there's a licking ritual that culminates with me having to wipe my ears dry. I think cats would be easier as they'd just sneer at me as they push past on the way in, before stealing a cosy place on my chair.
October would be a nice time to visit Northern Territory. You would expect the daily temperature at Uluru/Ayers Rock to reach about 31C (88F). But if you're thinking of heading further north, Darwin would be around 33C (92F). You're in the tropics when you're in that latitude.

And Happy Hannukah to all our Jewish friends!
Happy travels to those who can during 2015. Looks like we'll be homebound next year. Our single parent daughter has had notice to vacate her rental property and as there is little to rent in her area she is trying to buy a house and we are stumping up the deposit. She and we are trying to get it all settled before everything shuts down over xmas and new year.
I look forward to 'travelling' with different folk next year.
