Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd is a novel of England covering 100 centuries. It is quite a Tome being 1344 pages long. It shapes the destinies of 5 families through the centuries. Sarum is based on the history of Salisbury, it is a novel but is set amongst people, Kings and Queens and events that did exist in England during this time. I love history and loved this book.

That sounds really interesting, Sylvana. I should check to see if it's in my local library. I assume it doesn't cover the important historical period up to June 2013 in which my card was permanently swallowed by the ATM at NatWest Bank on Blue Boar Row, Salisbury?

Ha ha, no it finishes in the 1940's. I think that will be covered in his next installment I made a request to my library for this book as it wasn't in their catalogue and they got it in 2 weeks for me.

Guess what, Sylvana? I strolled into my local used book shop today and here's what I found: It looked brand new (I suspect that whoever sold it to the bookshop never got around to reading it). And better still, the price was only $4, so I bought it. I can see why some dedication of time will be necessary to read this. The 1344 pages make this book 2.5 inches thick and I'll need to wait until I clear the decks of an abundance of jobs before I can start reading it. I'm actually writing another book at the moment so I don't dare embark on this book before that's out of the way! I did read the preface because I couldn't resist it.

He also wrote a shorter novel that I read first The Forest which followed the history of people and happenings in and around 'new' forest in south in south of England. I also have in mind to read his book on London but after that giant tome of Sarum (I read it in hardback version) Im hesitant to get it out of the library!

Both 'London' and 'The Forest' were sitting on the shelf in the second-hand bookshop and I was cursing the fact that they didn't have Sarum. But casting my eyes down, there it was with other books stacked on the floor.
'London' was about two-thirds the thickness of 'Sarum' and 'The Forest' was about half the thickness so that'll give you a rough guide as to the length of these books.

No, not yet, Renmarkable. Sarum has been sitting on my desk at work and every morning when I walk into the office I vow to commence reading it. I'm currently reading another book that my neighbour gave to me and I better keep at it because she will soon asking me what I thought of it. After finishing that I'll be returning to writing a book I've been working on for a year, as well as a couple of travel tales I'll be posting here. Alas, I have too many things I want to do, and insufficient time to achieve them. But Sarum was on my New Year resolution list to be read sometime in 2015.

OzT, they have an eAudiobook version of Sarum that your local library may have online to download. You can listen to it while you work. That one is on my reading bucket list. I just don't have time to read any more so I started listening to eAudiobooks when I can get them. I just checked it out from my library to listen to at work.

I've never tried using an audiobook, jhwks; maybe that's something I need to explore someday. I'd imagine I'd find it hard to concentrate on an audiobook whilst working.

Yeah, that might be hard to do especially if you get involved in a book. You might try one of those downloadable audiobooks first. That way you don't have to stop what you're doing and change discs. You can check out your library's elibrary section of their web site. That's where I get all of my audiobooks and ebooks. Try one.
