1 ~~~ COVID Has Transformed Las Vegas' Glamorous Restaurants ~ Conde Nast Traveler ~~~ The Vegas buffet is dead, long live the Vegas buffet.
Las Vegas is purpose-built for extravagant fun, often in large groups. So it’s no surprise COVID-19 has hit it particularly hard. That pain is particularly acute in the city's restaurant industry. While restaurant consultancy Aaron Allen & Associates predicts approximately one in three of the nation’s restaurants will close permanently in 2020, in Las Vegas, “that outlook is more like 85 percent,” says Elizabeth Blau, owner and partner in Honey Salt and Buddy V’s in The Venetian.
“From the Strip perspective, 100 percent of the convention business is gone,” Blau says. “We have more fine dining restaurants than probably anywhere on the planet—but we also have the most expensive restaurants. And that crowd coming to Las Vegas on expense accounts has completely evaporated.”
