1 ~~~ Planning a Family Road Trip, Knowing It Might Be Our Last My father-in-law's Alzheimer's brought expected challenges, and some unexpected joy, to a summer trip. Halfway to Sixth Lake in the Adirondacks, my husband pulled into the North Creek Mini Mart so he, I, and my father-in-law could eat the sandwiches I had packed for the three-hour drive from Albany. It wasn’t the most picturesque location on the long stretch along the Hudson River, but there was cell phone service and a place to park, which, at the moment were our top criteria for a picnic stop. “Turn the car around!” my father-in-law protested from the passenger’s seat. “I don’t want to look at a broken umbrella in a parking lot,” he said, noting our so-so surroundings. “I want to look at the trees and the sky.” www.cntraveler.com/story/planning-a-family-road-trip-alzheimers ~ 31 August 2020 ~ + Lakeside Retreats We Keep Coming Back To ~~~ The ocean's beautiful and all, but there's something about spending the summer on a lake that has a hold on us. ~ You don't even have to own a house or canoe, because we've picked the best, mostly off-the-radar lakeside spots where you can live that On Golden Pond fantasy this summer. ~~~ www.cntraveler.com/gallery/lakeside-retreats-we-keep-coming-back-to ~ 25 May 2017 ~
