1 ~~~ COVID-19 Screenings at U.S. Airports Remain Inconsistent ~ Conde Nast ~~~ Experts say the lack of effective virus screenings or contact tracing plays a role in the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
International travel looks vastly different this summer, especially for American fliers. One of the biggest differences, according to U.S. travelers who have flown abroad amid the pandemic: COVID-19 screening protocols are much more effective at airports in other countries. Josh Yearian is one American passenger who noticed the discrepancy when he traveled between Chicago and Dubai at the end of July.
“Getting on the flight in O’Hare? Easy. Landing in Dubai from the U.S.? Different story,” Yearian says.
After deplaning in Dubai, Yearian had his temperature taken, disclosed his travel history, filled out health declaration forms, and was asked to quarantine for 24 hours after he completed a COVID-19 test. He also participated in an optional experiment, which had subjects hold a plastic tube under their armpits for 60 seconds to test if dogs could smell the virus.
United Arab Emirates officials provided a QR code for passengers to track the progress of their tests and recommended they download an informational resource app. When departing from and returning to O’Hare International Airport, however, Yearian was only required to fill out a health declaration form. www.cntraveler.com/story/covid-19-screenings-at-us-airports-remain-inconsistent ~ 19 August 2020 ~
