I find the one-sheet city maps -- available at the front desk of most hotels or at tourist information centers -- are invaluable in finding interesting (and worthwhile) places to visit. I wish these city maps could be obtained BEFORE one arrives in the city so some pre-planning could be done. (These city maps are much better than the maps contained in tour books).

Plenty of map apps where you can download the city map and use offline if necessary. You can calculate directions, find restaurants, hotels, attractions without the internet. I don't use hotel maps anymore. The apps like maps.me are better.

Using maps.me, for the language, I click "English". In the "Country" box, I type "Poland". In the "City" box, when I type "Cracow" or "Crakow" or "Kracow" or "Krakow", the result is "City is not found".

You have to download the map. I went to "Download Maps" listed in the menu (lower right corner) and typed in krakow poland. It came up with the map. I downloaded it and have a detailed map of the city.

The install process asks me to "Choose a device:" but the only selection is "AT&T Motorola XT1052". I don't have that device; I'm using a desktop PC.

It's an app for a phone not a PC.

i don't have a phone so I guess I have to use the city-maps from hotels/tourist info centers. Or, is there a source I can get the one-sheet city-maps from?

You can print any map from Google Maps. You can even explore the area around the hotel with the Street View and add notes to the map. I find some hotel maps don't include all street names and with Google Maps you can zoom in to get all the street names as well as names of the businesses in the area.
