Hopefully I’ll be done reading your Costa Rica tour tale before you post this one! Egypt is also on my list, so I’m looking forward to hearing about this trip when you get back.

Hehe! You'd like Egypt because there is like zero humidity!! And in February, the temperatures are perfect....average in the low 20s.

Hi Chech
I will be very interested to read your review of this trip for several reasons: how safe you felt travelling in Egypt, differences you may notice compared to 1994 and also hearing about Eldertreks - I've looked at their website and they seem to do in-depth tours so should appeal to travellers who may have already visited the area.

Yeah, I love how they go just a bit off the beaten path but cater to people over 50 (who are in generally good health). But they do allow people under 50...they told me they don't check IDs. LOL Ironically, attacks on tourists have been extremely rare since 2011. And the one attack in the Sinai drew swift and decisive action that has secured the southern tourist half of the peninsula. Prior to 2011, they averaged one attack a year...now it's the one attack in 6 years. And the tour operators take precautions if they travel into an advisory area. We will have armed escort when we go to Siwa. But overall, I found Egypt to be the safest country I have ever visited. The Egyptians know that tourism is their bread and butter so they do everything possible to protect tourists from external threats.

The Egyptians know that tourism is their bread and butter so they do everything possible to protect tourists from external threats. I felt the same way about Greece. They need tourism right now, so, overall, they treat tourist very well. I felt perfectly safe when I was there, despite all of the warnings I got from people before going.

Yeah. I'm not even sure why people would feel Greece wasn't safe. As our guide said, they love to protest as a pasttime but the media oversensationalizes it all. It was the same with Israel. Everyone was telling me it was too dangerous to go and nothing could be further from the truth....but the media has people believing that the whole country is a war zone. The same with Egypt. The country as been very stable for four years. The danger there is no better or worse than visiting Boston or Florida.

Chech: Looking forward to your new tour tale. Once again your tour writings and photos will take me along with you to a place I will never get to visit. Thanks for taking the time to do this. May you have no weather problems both at home or on your tour. Bon Voyage. Purvis

Yeah, it's quite the storm. Started this morning about 5 a.m. and is expected to taper off around noon tomorrow. My flight was at 1:30 pm and while I expect it to get out no problem, I might have a problem getting to the airport by noon. So, I woke at 6 am this morning to see Air Canada had issued the Travel Alert for tomorrow and I was able to change my flight from 1:30 to 6 pm. That one shouldn't have a problem getting out. And I upgraded to business so if there are issues, I get priority. I spend Wednesday night in Toronto and don't fly out of Toronto until after 6 pm on Thursday. So that gives me at least four or five options on Thursday if it came down to it. But I hope to get there tomorrow night so that I can drop into the Square One mall to pick up a couple of items that I can't get here. Best part....if I can't finish clearing my driveway, no problem. I just need a path so that I don't have to wear boots.

Well, after a 32 hour blizzard that dumped 64 cm of snow and two flight changes, I'm finally at the airport awaiting the first flight out since Monday. I spent the entire day with my eyes glued to the Air Canada site, the weather site, the radar and arrivals/departures. And in between it all, I had to clear my driveway twice. I'm exhausted....and a little sore. Now I'm in the lounge waiting for the plane to get in from Toronto. I should get there by 1 a.m. **whew** I could use a drink.

Chech: Didn't think you drank but in this instance I don't blame you. My theory about snow is "Mother Nature brought it and she can xxxxx take it away". Fortunately I only have two condo decks and unless I'm ordered by the condo board to get rid of the snow (and who's going to order a 4'11" 82year old to shovel snow) it can stay till it melts whenever that is. Glad you made it to the airport at least that's a step in the right direction. Have a wonderful trip. Keep us informed . Purvis

Well....I was sitting there watching my plane come in from Toronto, watched it circle and then turn around and return to Toronto. Went to check with the gate and they said it couldn't land, so our flight was cancelled and they were waiting on word for next possible flight out which wouldn't be before Thursday afternoon. Then I asked about the direct flight from St. John's to London which is where I was catching the Egyptair flight to Cairo. I saw a twinkle in her eye that said 'Awesome...one less person they have to get on a Toronto flight tomorrow." She sent me out to the ticket counter and they sent me to get my luggahe while I called Air Canada Reservations to change my flights. It was a mad dash back and forth but they got me a seat....then said they also switched the Egyptair flight to Thursday. At first I was like noooo....then my mind stopped my mouth and told it..."two full pre days to explore the Pyramids!" Oh yeah. So I emailed Eldertreks and by time i landed there was a response that a transfer would be there to take me to the Giza hotel. What an adventure! And I'm not even there yet. I need caffeine!

Chech: Your adventure started before you even got on an airplane. Luck of the Irish EH". With the extra day in Egypt you'll have time to catch your breath and to wander around at leisure . Enjoy . Purvis

Well, I got back Sunday night and have slept more than 30 hours while fighting allergies. I'll get on the photos today and should be able to start posting the tale in a few days. This was a felucca on the Nile in Aswan at sunset.
