Just wondered if anyone has seen the Vatican Gardens? Is it worth the time and expense?

I wouldn't be bothered unless you had plenty of time. The tour within the Vatican museum is busy enough without any need to stroll around the gardens. As I understand it, you cannot just wander out there; you have to be part of a guided tour group. I suppose the idea is to prevent people like me leaving behind my banana peel and crusts from my peanut butter sandwich...

I understand that retired Benedict loves to take a private stroll in the garden. Oz, I was just trying to think of a new experience while in Rome. I can understand not spending the time there if it is your first visit but if you have been to Rome several times before, it might be interesting.

Gardens were elegant and if your are a gardener it is well worth the walk through . But if you have an extra couple of hours the most intriguing place in the Vatican is the necropolis underneath the Basilica, where the tomb of St. Peter is located. You must check with Vatican sign up for a tour and time. 12Euros was the best money we spent.
