Can anyone recommend a good travel backpack to use instead of a suitcase?

Can anyone recommend a good travel backpack to use instead of a suitcase? Eagle Creek products. They have good quality products. But stay away from ones that are made in China. They are a bit expensive to my taste but my backpacks have been performing well considering the rough uses on long hikes in the sierras. By the way I have absolutely no affiliation with or financial interests in Eagle Creek.

MEC, mountain equipment co-op, have good travel backpacks. If you don't have a store, you can buy from them on-line. It is a Canadian company. They have convertible backpacks and other types with removable parts, they are usually very good quality. I haven't bought from them recently, though.

I have good things about mountain equipment as well.
I used a samsonite one as my carry- on and day pack to ease shoulder pain. Worked like a charm.

Yup...she has a MEC! I don't. <grumble> The one I had years ago was nice cause the backpack straps had a cover that zipped over and enclosed them all so that they didn't get caught up in machinery.

I have 2 like that but they are more than 10 years old. We used them on Our Country Roads of France in 2007 I think it was, because we were staying in an apartment after the tour on the 4th floor with no elevator. We carried them as backpacks from our tour hotel to the flat and then to fly home we took the RER train to de Gaulle airport. It was quite handy to have them convertible. MEC usually have very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

LOL, Chech! There is a nice outdoor outfitter store where you are though. i looked at a really nice one today that rolls like a roll aboard, but then the straps come out like a backpack. It has the waist and upper body clips and has a daypack that unzips from it. It opens from the side too. I think this is what I want, but I'm cringing at the price, $339. It's by Osprey.
