This is primarily for those Australians and Kiwis travelling on mega-long haul flights to Europe, flying with Singapore Airlines, or via Singapore Changi Airport. In the past, I have broken the trip from Melbourne (south east coast of Aus) in Singapore before flying on to Europe. My usual trick is to stay at the Ambassador Hotel at Changi Airport, for convenience and cost. As a result, I have arrived in London mid afternoon, and literally hit the ground running, having abolutely no problems with jetlag. The Ambassador Transit Hotel provided a reasonably priced, clean, no frills hotel room to catch some sleep and have a shower between flights. The advantage being that there is a hotel in each of the three terminals of Changi Airport, and being located air-side, it is quick to reach as you do not clear customs and immigration. With a few hours between flights, this provided maximum sleep, with minimum hassle and expense (ie Crowne Plaza, Changi Airport, or taxi fares into town), without doing the full stopover. While browsing on another travel forum I noticed that another poster highlighted that the Ambassador Hotel is increasing their prices in 2015. Upon investigation, I found that the prices will be rising by >35% from mid July 2015. Check out the rate rises on the link- Ambassador Transit HotelDoing a bit of research, spending one night at the Crowne Plaza costs ~$60Sing extra, compared with the Ambassador Transit Hotel price increases. Hope this helps with any plans for your future travels, Rosemary

I do like the idea of breaking up the long-haul flights like this. The last time I did it, en-route to Europe, the stopover was in Seoul, Sth Korea. On the return flights, I once stayed in UAE before continuing the trip back to Australia.
As a general rule, jet-lag is more likely on the west-east leg (i.e. Europe to Australia/NZ), although everyone is different.

The idea of breaking up the long haul flights is great. Now I can plan for destination wedding to New York. I would like to book best hotel bar nyc for reception party. You know my brother also got married at that hotel!

I have used the Ambassador Transit Hotel once on the way back to Australia a couple of years ago. I was able to get a cheaper flight but it meant an 8 hour layover in Singapore, overnight on my time clock so I booked a block of 6 hours. Was great, managed to sleep, had a shower and felt quite refreshed by the time I got home.
