Today we celebrate our first month of operation and I'd like to thank every member for their support in contributing content to this forum, and the many guests who read it. One of the features of this forum is that moderators can access a statistics page which shows summarised activity levels. I'd like to share them with you here. In September we had an amazing number of views of our forum. A 'view' comprises every page you look at here. For example, if you open five threads the counter will register five views because you looked at five parts of the forum. The total views for September were 42,448 - an astonishing number. That's over 1400 views a day, and far more than what registered members are doing. We have a large number of unregistered users (guests) who regularly browse the forum and they're adding to the numbers in a big way. I hope everyone is finding something of interest here. The most members and guests viewing the forum at any one time was 50, which happened last week. And in the past 24 hours the forum was viewed by 17 members and 106 guests. The number of posts and threads have been high, but it's an unusual, one-off figure because it includes the setting up of the board structure and an enormous quantity of travel tales etc that Owen did such a fantastic job setting up for us. We have 57 members but we need more. Please spread the word about this forum wherever possible, as it will be better for everyone as a large board with plenty of activity. And to the hundreds of guests who browse here, please feel free to register and participate in our discussions whenever you can - whether you're asking questions or able to provide tips or advice to others, your input is very welcome!

OMG!!! Even when celebrating, never throw a cat too high, Chech.... .... they have a habit of sticking around....

Post by chech on Oct 1, 2014 1:16:51 GMT
That's okay. They always land on their feet.

True, but sometimes after landing, cats bounce ... .... sometimes soaring higher than where they fell from.

And once out there, they got to work, creating the rest of the universe. That's why the Egyptians had it right from the beginning when they worshiped cats as gods. And the cats have never let us forget it.

Well these days, cats seem to be worshipped as bosses of humans. ... especially in parts of Newfoundland.

I'd say the battle of the forums is victorious. I think they figured to use the other avenues of social media would give the same service. NOT! I am still waiting for answers that I tested through Facebook and Twitter. Lol Congrats on month 1. Fantastic job Oz and Owen. And any others involved I am not aware of.

Has this forum been active for a month already? Where has the time gone? I will invite a few people I’ve met on past Trafalgar tours to this forum. I know a few of them would be interested in joining. To be honest, I’m preferring this forum to the Trafalgar one. It’s easier to use, and it has a few features that the Trafalgar forum didn’t, like the “like” button. The best part is that the “attachment” button actually works, which means we can post pictures! The one thing I do miss from the Trafalgar forum is the “wish list” feature and “compare” feature. I liked being able to save 10 tours that I wanted to go on in my wish list, and use the compare feature when having a hard time deciding between tours.

Very interesting statistics, Oz. It is a tremendous achievement in such a short time. I had a peep at the Trafalgar site and found absolutely nothing of interest. I was away when all this happened but am so glad that I could make the connection.
Could you please explain Member status. Admin I understand and Owen's feature but Junior and Full needs explaining - New needs no explanation. Was just wondering.

Tony...looks like the member status only refers to the number of posts. the more you make, the higher status you get.

Congratulations!!! Thank you, Oz and Owen, for all the effort you've put into creating this new place. You have done a terrific job! I'm delighted to see familiiar names as well as new ones on the site and, of course, the cats that always keep me laughing.

OZ: Thanks for creating this website. I may not do any more foreign travels but still enjoy reading the ones done by the members of this site. At 80years of age in two months time I have been blessed with the privilege of doing 14 Trafalgar tours plus several independent trips to Cuba (2), Hawaii (2) and Florida (3) over the past 10years but most of all I have been blessed with knowing and enjoying the company of travellers who have shared their experiences first on Trafalgar's site and now on this one. THANKS Purvis

I am pleased that you have joined here to continue sharing discussions and to provide valuable advice, drawn from years of experience, to many people.

"Could you please explain Member status. Admin I understand and Owen's feature but Junior and Full needs explaining - New needs no explanation. Was just wondering. "Tony, it's like Chech said - a ranking system determined by the activity level, measured by posts contributed. To elaborate on the details I've explained it in a separate thread: travel-forum.freeforums.net/thread/309/member-rankings#ixzz3ExNd2Nhl

Once I finish my Mexico-Copper Canyon tour tale this weekend, I'll send the link to my tour group to join this site and invite them to read my tale as well as add their own comments about the tour.

I didn’t send the link for this website to my group, but I did send it to a few people from my last few tours. Not sure if they are interested in joining though, even though a few of them are frequent travelers. One person did say he’d check it out when he gets back from Germany in a few weeks, but none of the others have responded.

I'm sending the link to my Copper Canyon tour group this evening and perhaps we will add a few more participants to our board.

We've now completed two months participating on this new forum and the statistics show that we had 31,124 page views for the month of October. That's an average of 1,000 views per day and far more than I thought would happen. Thanks everyone for your support and participation!

Thanks Oz for creating this site for all of us former Trafalgar site persons . If was very thoughtfull..

Not as much being thoughtful as rushing all over the place in a panic to try to keep the group together before Trafalgar slammed the door on us!
It's great that we had enough time for some of us to migrate here, Purvis. I hope that others eventually find us.

Hmmmmmm; good question. I suppose you'd have to interpret the graphed data to find out...

It is certainly more than a fair result. I'm very sure Trafalgar would be very jealous of the result!

I'm thoroughly enjoying the Board. Especially all of the great cat pictures. One of these days I will figure out how to post pics, and yes I know there are instructions.
