1 _ Route 66 06August to 16August 2013 ~ Roxy (Florida USA) ~ 491 Views

Hi All, had the most amazing time on this tour. It Started in Chicago and finished in Santa Monica, California. 36 on board; 1/2 were Ozzies and Kiwis. Great bunch of mates and a wonderful TD, Tasha and driver Teresa....
Never a glitch as we pioneered across 9 states with many awesome pit stops in small towns between the major cities fully loaded with 1950s nostalgia. The weather stayed hot and clear with temps as high as 106F. in Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Every town was a Kodak moment.
The youngest traveler was one girl 13 with her parents; 2 or 3 were 80+...the rest in between. This trip had the most solos I've traveled with: 6 and 4 or 5 sets of solos rooming together. Everyone got along fabulously.
Accommodations were top shelf as were full buffet breakfasts and included dinners which were outside the hotels. The high 10,00 ft. elevation at the Sandia Tram dinner outing affected some; one lady needed oxygen and the rest just wobbled along and felt light headed including myself. climbing stairs to and from the restroom really left you huffing and puffing for quite some time. Anyone with heart problems probably should not do this optional excursion.
The elevation at Grand Canyon was a piece of cake compared to that...maybe 4K ft....but blazing hot.
I highly recommend this tour to all looking for the most amazing American road trip ever....yes...."Get Your Kicks on Route 66!" ...also ..."Standing on the Street Corner in Winslow Arizona..."...
Any questions just ask away and I'll try to remember...I don't take notes or do a journal. Sorry for lack of paragraphs, but some how I cannot make them happen on this BB.
Awesome Roxy!! Glad you had a great time!!

Route 66 06August to 16August 2013
The south rim... and was told it was about 4K feet. Didn't feel any light headedness but huffed and puffed along especially at 106F.
The glass sky walk on the south rim is about 400 miles from there and supposedly you cannot wear your shoes...need special so called slippers and can't take photos...for those so inclined to consider going there.
On a personal note, from Orlando to Chicago...a 2 1/2 hour non stop flight, my bag went missing...the first time ever in all my travels around the world over many years!
It got to my hotel the next morning just prior to departure...it had a vacation without me in Indiana...I was in Chicago, Illinois! laugh
Another personal note...the musical tribute show in Branson, MO was excellent.
I was sceptical since it hightlighted Johnny Cash, The Blues Brothers, Celine Dion, The Temptations and ELVIS.
Now how can anyone replicate my Elvis?!...Superb job.
So if anyone is anti tribute shows (like I was) take a chance you might be pleasantly surprised. yes

Hi Luv2Travel, We stopped in Seligman AZ for photos and browsing.
Don't remember where we had lunch but it was on the fly and the next day it was again on our own in Santa Fe, which I loved and could spend a week there.
Most lunch stops were on the fly with choices like McD's, Cracker Barrel, etc.
There were many small town stops for browsing and photos in between the major city stops with fabulous museums, preserved roadside motels and gas stations all having an enormous amount of authentic, preserved and displayed memorabilia.
It really broke up the bus travel so the days never seemed long.

Hi Chech...I'm just glad the canyon wasn't like at the top of the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque.
It's a lousy feeling being that light headed so far up.
I didn't even finish the awesome margarita they served just to stay as level headed as possible laughlaugh
Luckily I didn't have chest pains like the lady who took oxygen. It took her about 2 days to return to normal.
Even young people felt it there.
But in Grand Canyon it was only lack of breadth in 106F. heat walking the rim.
Also the walk to the breakfast cafe there was probably 1/4 mile...not a good feature.
I bought stuff at the general store the night before and ate in my room.
There was also a cofffee maker and fridge in the room so no need to start the day off wiped out free or not. laugh

Have 2 loaded SD cards yet to tackle and don't know how to post them here.
Chech replied ~~~~~
It's easy to post. Once you get them on your computer and sorted out, just click on the tree icon in the bar above (in the box you type in ) and browse for the photo you want to post.
The trick is that the photos have to be under 700 kb to post. If you don' tknow how to reduce it, there's a simple way to do it if you are on facebook. Anytime you post a photo on facebook, it automatically reduces the photo for you. You can upload it to your photos on facebook then right click on the photo, Save Image As, give it a new name and post it here.

What a great trip Roxy, I have been to most of those places, but must be so much fun going with Trafalgar! St. Louis is one my favorite cities, did you try the frozen custards at Ted Drewers? Did you go up the Arch? Sometimes I feel I don't have to tour my own country, but you are making me re-think it! Thank you for the tale.
