Kiwigrandma, I travelled to India in February 2014 with a friend who was from India and gathered 21 others interested in making the trip. We saw what is known as the Golden Triangle which included visiting the Red Fort, Taj Mahal, and Delhi. We then flew to Calcutta to visit Mother Theresa's mother house and orphanages. From there we flew south to Kerala and spent the night on a small boat on a local river. We also saw Gandhi's tomb and many of the buildings left from when the British ruled the country. The trip reminded me of time spent in Egypt (seeing road side plastic non biodegradable bags on roadside) and Peru seeing the plight of the poor. Visiting the ( Guinean Pig house which through my stomach off.)The hotel's were all good except we ran into some of those pit toilets at freeway stops. It was a long transit from the US. We did stay at Dubai enroute back to Dallas. My trip was cheap probably around $3,000 including airfare but that was in part that my friend served as the lead TD escorting us throughout his country. I see Trafalgar is offering trips there now and having taken 11 Coach trips with them over the years would have most likely travelled with them again to this country. I am a solo traveler and I really enjoyed travelling with my friend Sojan and his other friends. Get ready to see a lot of people!!! By the way the weather was perfect in February not too hot and not a lot of rain!! Good luck with your fact finding and trip planning. You'll get to ride in a rickshaw as well as a lot of 3 passenger mopeds if you get tired of your coach!! Had one meal to die for in Agra at an outdoor café. Good safe Tandoori and beer can be found throughout the country. In my humble opinion if you have travelled to Morocco and enjoyed that you most likely will enjoy India too.

Thanks for info. I think I have looked at brochures for insight and liked one of the tours. I haven't been to morocco but would like to. But then I'd like to go most places but I'll probably have to choose. I'm also thinking of river cruise st Petersburg to Moscow but very expensive for us here in New Zealand. Couple of years to think about and plan. Just got back from France, Belgium and England.

I haven't been to Belgium for years but love France. I signed up for a two week trip to France that went to Normandy beaches as well as down to Nice. I signed up for the costsaver tour and Trafalgar called and told me they had cancelled the costsaver and offered me a free upgrade to their first class tour which basically was the same itinerary but nicer hotels and more included like the Monet Gardens. I have always thought that they were an outstanding company for the location of their tours, activities, pace and price. Loved my trip to your beautiful country had a blast at Queensland and was fortunate enough to make it to Christchurch before the earthquake hit. Also, had some delicious lamb chops near the Franz Joseph glacier. Saw a lot of Lamb in your country as well.
It is funny that I have travelled to so many places and sometimes I find myself pinching myself on a tour thinking why am I spending this money to these exotic places when I should be visiting places like Baniff, CA instead of Zimbabwe? Maybe because the trip to Africa was cheaper than those Canadian Rocky Mountain explorer trips. Really personally am a strong believer in visiting the less westernize countries as young as you can.
Aren't those River Cruises also more expensive? Ever consider taking a land tour between St. Petersburg to Moscow? I know that many people don't like to pack and repack their suitcases as they move hotel to hotel. Maybe, a River cruise would suit your needs perfectly? To each their own and variety is the spice of life.
Never thought I would see such different terrain between Australia and New Zealand given the countries are so close. That was a big surprise for me!! Happy travels!

Glad you had good time in New Zealand. It's always nice to hear travellers like my country. I've seen a land tour done by trafalgar that goes to Moscow and st Petersburg and spends at least three days in each. Includes Copenhagen as well and couple of other places. Sounds good and not too expensive. Can't go for a while need to save up but will seriously consider it. Thanks for info.
