I've been meaning to get on here to promote this movie for awhile, finally about to do it!
The movie Lion premiered in North America and UK last month and is in theatres later this month (January for Australia). The movie is based on the life of a person I went to primary school and high school with. It stars Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman and parts are filmed here in Tasmania.
The basic story is, a 5 year old boy boards a train in his home town in India; gets off in Calcutta; doesn't know how to get home; gets picked up by an orphanage; gets adopted by an Australian couple and moves to Hobart, Tasmania; as an adult uses Google Earth to search along the train lines leading to Calcutta looking for his home town. He eventually finds something that looks familiar and flies to India to check it out and finds his mother still living in the same place.
It is supposed to be a good movie and has already won a few awards.
One unusual fact, he got off he train at Howrah Railway Station, Calcutta and when he was adopted lived in the Hobart suburb of Howrah and went to Howrah Primary School!

Thanks for reminding me tassiedevil. I read something about it a couple of months ago and thought it would be a great film to see.

hello TassieDevil
we have just seen the movie 'Lion'. an excellent film and really got into the heart and mind of a young man whose real life was snatched from him. Amazingly supportive adoptive parents. a film I will be recommending to all!

It's a great movie and won some awards at BAFTA last week. The child who is in the first part of the movie was just picked off the street to do the role and hadn't even seen a camera before! Can you imagine the benefits / life improvements that his family will experience just because he was in the right spot at the right time!!!!!

That's great Californian! Hope you enjoy it! Great movie, I though of you during the movie Tassiedevil. It also brought some sad memories regarding the other adopted son and his problems, we had similar experience with a Russian child my son and daughter in law adopted. He has been estranged from the family for sometime now.
