Chech: You easterners don't know cold. It has been in the -35-40C here in the Edmonton area for over a week. Today it made it all the way up to -10C and it really seemed warm. Tomorrow back into the -20's (without adding in the windchill). Oh well we're promised much warmer next week. Purvis

Thanks everyone! I only want two things for Christmas this year, one, a chemo break for the holidays, which I got, and two, my CT scan showing that the cancer is gone. I’ll find out next week if I will get my second wish!
Purvis, I grew up in Northern Ontario, where the average winter temps were in the -20’s, however, I’m now used to Toronto winter weather, and, for me, anything above -10 is considered cold! I have to admit, it’s a different kind of cold though. Up North, it’s more of a dry cold, which I find easier to handle. Toronto is damp, and the cold goes right through you, no matter how many layers you are wearing. I read once that if you live in a damp environment, you should buy a winter coat that’s water proof, as it will also protect you from the dampness. My parka is water resistant, but I still feel the dampness and the cold! I actually have three different winter parkas for different types of weather, and I wear them all every winter.

Tiffany: I know what you mean by different types of cold. I grew up in Chatham Ont. then moved to Windsor after I got married then onto Oakville ON. where I lived 1 block from Lake Ontario for 31years. I still find -30 to -40 very cold even if it's a dry cold. I guess it's too late for me to smarten up and move south. Love living here in Alberta but miss the longer summers in Ontario. Purvis

I should be getting the results of my CT scan tomorrow, and I can’t wait! I have to admit, I’ve been experiencing a little bit of anxiety over the last couple of days. I’m really hoping for the best, but I am worried that the medication is not working in regard to the spots on my lungs or the lymph node in the middle of my chest. The good news is, I’m pretty sure that it’s working in regard to the tumors along my scar line. I guess I just have to wait and see!

Saw my oncologist today and we decided I should continue with chemo to have a total of six months of it, including the 6 weeks i had in September/October. Thankfully she said I can restart it at the end of January when I get back to Australia.

I bought some bio-oil, but to be honest I'm not worried about the scars. Unlike Purvis no one will see me scars, but me and even then I would need mirrors to see them all. What got was what that scar replaced on my body.

Hello all, I went to the hospital today for my final treatment of 2016, and I got some good news! Although my doctor had not yet gotten the radiologist’s written report, she did call the radiologist to get a verbal report, and was told that the spots on my lungs and the lymph in the middle of my chest have all shrunk! They also could not see the small masses along my scar line. This means that the medication is working! As I’m getting a break from chemo this week and next week, my next treatment won’t be until January 10. My doctor has advised that she wants me to get three to four more chemo treatments (six to eight more doses) in 2017, which would take me until the end of January, beginning of February, and then she will send me for a chest scan. If that looks good, I will stop taking the chemo, and continue with the Perjeta and Herceptin until the end of March. At that time, I will go for another CT scan, and, if all looks good, I will continue with the Herceptin and Perjeta and go for another CT scan in September. So, this is our long term plan, and we are hoping that the medication continues to work!
Tassiedevil, I’m glad to hear that you are going to be able to go on your trip to the States over the holidays. I hope you have a great vacation! You deserve it!

Tiffany: I'm so happy for you. It seems God really does answer prayers (mine). Have a wonderful Christmas and here's hoping that like Tassiedevil you will be off on your two tours in 2017 and well on your way to have won your long battle with cancer. It appears that the light at the end of the tunnel is much brighter. Purvis

Such good news Tiffany! Hope you have continued good results with your ongoing treatment. As you know, I was diagnosed with Her2 positive breast cancer in March 2015. It was caught early and the tumor was only 2cm but had migrated to lymph nodes. Chemo/radiation plus one year of Herceptin seemed to have worked for me as my mammogram in May of this year was clear and also many, many scans showed nothing abnormal....I'm considering myself a 7 month survivor!
Merry Christmas to everyone with a special healthy upcoming year to all those suffering health issues and this dreadful cancer disease.

That's good news Tiffany! I'm really hoping everything works out well for you next year.
One thing I forgot to mention was that I got a shock at the oncologist when she needed my weight to figure out my dose for chemo. Fully clothed with wallet and phone in my pocket I only weighed 54kg. I hadn't realised how much I had lost from the surgery. No wonder I'm having trouble trying to grab a bit of fat on my abdomen to inject myself with clexane (blood thinner)! I always said thankfully I don't have type 1 diabetes as I would soon die due to my fear of needles. As mentioned in early post it is amazing how strong you can be when you need to be, each morning I am able to inject myself. In saying that though I will be very happy in 14 days time when I've used the last one and will be hoping I won't have to do it ever again!

I wish I had your problem Tassiedevil! I’ve gained 20 pounds since I started chemo last March, due to the steroids they have given me. I’m sure the lack of exercise I’m getting is also a factor. I used to play badminton and go to the gym regularly, but I can’t do that while on chemo. Between the shortness of breath and the neuropathy in my fee, I can’t do much more than walking in terms of exercise.

I was lucky, I was able to continue with my sporting pursuits while undergoing treatment, admittedly not at my usual level though. People thought I was carrying an injury and I didn't tell them otherwise.
On a happy note for me I injected myself with the last dose of clexane today! 😀😀😀 Won't miss having to do that every morning.
