Hi everyone. I am visiting my niece in Chicago and just met "Alexa". Never knew she existed before. Guess you can purchase her for around $179 on Amazon.
I tell you I was surely in for a surprise as I sat with my 4 yr old grandnephew and mused about the possible weather in Florida for next week. The next thing I know is he says, "Alexa what is the temperature in Florida"? All of a sudden I see a light come on a small boxed speaker and I he a voice talking back and providing a 84 degree weather report for Florida.
I'm like what the hell is that kid? Oh, that's Alexa, she is our friend. You can ask her anything.
"Anything" I ask sure says 4 yr old James. So I proceeded to ask her "Who is running for President'? Sure enough she rattled off the names of the three Republican candidates and the two Democratic candidates. The I asked, "Alexa, can you play New York, New York." The next thing I knew the song was being played through the speaker.
At any rate I guess you can get an app that will voice activate the lights and temperature in the house with a little help from Alexa. So at 57 I am learning more about technology everyday. Getting a little scared too as the world seems to be changing so fast.
Wondering if anyone on the BB owns an Alexa or had hear about these devices?

Well, I have "Suri" in my iphone....it comes handy if I ask Suri to call someone or to set the timer if I am baking, or to check movies, etc but I haven't used ir much, I am planning to use (her, it?) in my next trip to find restaurants, etc. So Alexa comes also in tablets? Still amazed of all the things we have today! I was listening someone speak of the Apollo program, and how the electronics we have today in our pockets is , I forgot, like a million times more complex that what they had then.
