Trying to figure out why the price tag on our "little pork friend" is still the same as it was in 2009! LoL! Loved this section on San Gimignano and Sienna...

I found the Porkie by accident. I think the shop moved from when you were there. And wasn't sticking out into the laneway like your photo seemed to show. Maybe too many people hit their heads on it...LOL Day Twelve is up.

I’m a few days behind, and just finished reading about the Angels and Demons tour. I wish I had known about Viator when I was in Italy, as I would have loved to have gone on this tour. I guess I’ll just have to go back to Rome sooner rather than later. Looking forward to reading about the tours you go on while in Florence.

It was a well done tour and Roberto was a fabulous actor and storyteller. There is an Inferno tour in Florence but I couldn't fit it into my schedule. However, I was able to follow part of the path by doing a Vasari Corridor tour.

Chech: Just finished reading day 13 and found the pictures wonderful especially the one were the sun shines through the clouds onto the church. Interesting info on the making of glass and lace. Thanks for taking the time to post your travel tales, pictures and historic information. Puvis

Yeah, I wish I had taken video of the horse making demo at the earlier glass making demo - that guy did a far superior job. Granted, see the demo twice was a treat. The next two days are not as long so both are up.... Day Fourteen and Day Fifteen.

I just finished reading day 10 (Florence) and a lot of my pictures are similar to yours. I guess I saw a lot more in Florence than I thought. I'm surprised you were allowed to take pictures in the Academy of Fine Arts though. When I was there in 2007 and 2009 no pictures were allowed, so I don't have a picture of the David. Just another reason to go back!

Great tour and photos of Venice, thank you Chech. I love walking and getting lost in Venice, as far as possible from the crowds; looking forward to Sicily, I did not get the chance to go to Agrigento. I saw recently an episode of Globe Trekker about food, sensational.

Thank you Chech. My Sicilian grandmother grew up in the village of Mascali, (Between Catania and Taormina) very close to the Etna, and we heard stories of the eruptions and lava flows all our lives, Around 1928 the whole village was buried and she had nightmares all her life even that she was living in S. America by then. Of that and of the great earthquake of Messina (I think about 1906, which she did experience it) The town was more or less rebuilt now, we visited it and I brought home some lava rocks to remember her. Looking forward to your visit of Taormina and the rest.

Amazing yes, very interesting,I have copies of some newspapers clipping of the time of the destruction of Mascali (somewhere, and I don't remember if there are in English or Italian, I am going to look for them, one of my uncles wrote about it and he found them).

Chech Thanks once again for taking me along on your tour via tour tale and photos . Have you ever considered becoming a tour guide.? You would make a great one as you delve into the history behind the places you visit. Hope your upcoming tour is all you wish it to be. Purvis

Finally working on the photos and should start putting up the tale this weekend with any luck. Got a new Surface Pro 4 and have it all set up as a replacement for my desktop...all hooked to my screen and keyboard with tons of external storage and now 1TB of Cloud storage...which will take care of storing my photos while traveling. Hi Chech How do you like thge Surface Pro. I need a new computer system and have been looking at this and an HP system. Feedback much appreciated, thanks. Jay.

This is my second Surface. I had the original Pro and loved it. I just gave that to my niece. The 4 is really sweet. It's a true tablet/laptop hybrid. It's actually replacing my desktop. It has a USB port and I bought the docking station which adds 4 more ports (plus I have a splitter which gives me three more if I need it). The docking station plugs into the Surface's power port, not the USB, and I have my full sized wireless keyboard and mouse plugged in as well as my 28" 4K monitor (this is likely why some tablets aren't sold with a keyboard....some prefer to use full sized keyboard, but for travel, I will be getting the Pro keyboard that also doubles as a cover). The Surface also lets me pick the 4K monitor as my primary screen and the Surface is just standing off to the side. I can plug any peripheral via the docking station as well - printers, scanners, fax etc. It also has a bluetooth enabled pen which I haven't used yet. It uses Windows 10 and I have an Office 365 subscription and got a terabyte of Cloud storage with that subscription as well. There is nothing it can't do that a laptop or desktop can. I bought the i7 with 256GB as it was on sale (solid state drive). I was going to get the i5 256GB. I would recommend the i5 128GB as a minimum. For the sake of the extra $100, you get a better machine than the base model m3. I am very impressed with the Surface. I never imagined I could travel with my "desktop" and cloud storage means there's nothing on the Surface itself that I don't want there should I lose it. And I can save my photos to the Cloud as I go. And it has facial recognition which I have set to only look for when I power the machine on. You can also set it to look for you when it wakes from sleep. I just have to look at the tablet for a second and it says hello. (You can also enter a code or buy the keyboard with fingerprint recognition....all kinds of security possibilities if you need it) Oh, it also has expandable memory which you won't find on a lot of other machines and there are 200 GB micro SD cards that the Surface can take - Class 10 UHS-1 cards micro SD. So, even with a 128GB Surface, you can easily add another (or several) 200 gigs via a card and a terabyte (or more) via the Cloud. And I have two 1.5 TB external drives for long term storage. (They both contain the same info in case one fails). And to think I went on the Bohemian Highlights in 2009 with a tiny ASUS laptop that had 2 GB solid state drive. Any questions, fire away.

Thanks for the info. Need to think about it, as we already have an up to date pc, do I want/need a hybrid or just upgrade my tablet? This would be for my studio outside the house where I'm still using our old pc that runs XP 32 bit! Really needs upgrading but I have programs on there that can only run on 32 bit. They can be upgraded but thats An extra cost so.... decisions, decisions, but the Surface does appeal...
