We here in the Edmonton Alberta area have had a great winter. Very little snow and very warm weather by Edmonton's standards. Today it will be -2C and then in a few days back above zero. Much nicer weather here than in Washington DC or most of the Eastern US seaboard. Little tricky walking as the snow melts during the day then it freezes up overnite then it takes until noon to melt again. I walk a lot so have been housebound much of this winter except for taxis to get groceries. I love to walk so can't wait until this situation goes away. Oh well it's almost Mar. so not too long until spring. Possibly will get back to Ireland this May or June depending on my knees which have developed arthritis. Walk the hallways in my building to get in shape but won't decide until April .

Owen: I just took a look at your post of Air Canada's meal for economy. It really is awful. I find it best to go to a restaurant and have a decent meal during stopovers before boarding for the flt. to the UK or Europe. Air Canada once had decent food on it's flights but not lately. It's always a good idea to take a snack with you just in case. Purvis

Glad your considering a trip to Ireland. I know you are part Irish and I'm sure you enjoy the country.

plane2catch: Just looked at the bulletin board in my condo building and guess what we're having a pizza party to celebrate St. Patrick's Day (Mar. 17) .What has pizza to do with the Irish?. You're right I'm Irish and really don't like pizza. My maiden name was Pat Mahon my grandfather came from northern Ireland.

Yeah Purvis, I am planning on finding some corn beef and cabbage at a pub here in Kalamazoo, Michigan. When I was at the university I use to celebrate St. Patty's day by having a Green Beer or two. Thought I saw an e-mail address with either Patricia Kelly or Patty Kelly in it so I figured you had some Irish Connection. I didn't visit Northern Island on my first trip. But have subsequently spent some time there. Only wish I had made it to the coastal location where they have the six sided rock formation's, i.e. Giant's Causeway. I guess that is my excuse to return to the Emerald Isle. Love listening to the Irish ballads.

Showing my ignorance but I am going to google Edmonton to see it's location. Thinking Alberta is Western Canada. But not as far as Vancouver which I believe is in the Province of British Columbia. Perhaps, Alberta is the first province to the East of British Columbia?? Wondering if Purvis lives close to Glacier National Park ?

plane2catch: I was born in Chatham Ontario and lived in Windsor ON for 8years (after marriage) before my husband was transferred to Oakville ON by Fords. While in Windsor most of my doctors were in Detroit MI. When in ON. my shopping was at JL Hudson's downtown then later in Northland Hudson's . Spent a lot of my Ontario years shopping in Detroit and it's suburbs as we had family there. Edmonton is in mid-central Alberta on the same latitude as Moscow thus we normally have lousy winters but not this one or last. Actually I live in St. Albert which is a bedroom community just on the northern boarder of Edmonton.

Oh, I remember Northland, went there as a child a few times in the mid to late 70's. My niece worked as an Electrical Engineer for Ford Motor company back in 1993. I know that she was on a team working on the Focus and the corporate jet flew her to work on assignment in Mexico for 6 months. If I recall correctly they opened a Casino in Windsor before they did in Detroit back in the 1990's. Always, had difficulties trying to figure out if I wanted to drive the bridge or take the tunnel while visiting Windsor. Spent a few beautiful 4th of Julys watching the Fireworks down by the river overlooking the border back in the 70's.

plane2catch: We left Windsor to move to Oakville ON in 1963 when one son was 4 and the other nearly 2. If my calculations are right you are near my eldest son's age 57 which means I'm much older than you but it seems I'm much older than everyone these days. Of course the alternative of reaching 81 is not very appealing. Purvis

You are a good sleuth, Purvis, as I will turn 27 on Tuesday! I quite enjoy texting with the BB members. Helps pass the time as I am single and live alone in a condo without pets. Made a trip to the local library and checked out a few books which I am sure you and most others have already read, i.e. How to kill a mocking bird and Shakespeare's Hamlet. I read Hamlet years ago but can't remember the story line.

plane 2catch: You are not my son's age but my grandson Shawn who turns 27this July . My other grandson Mike is 25. Now I really feel old. Nice Irish names "right" . I wish I were your age so that I would have so many years ahead to travel. I didn't start to take tours, and go to Hawaii until after I turned 70 . My late husband didn't like to travel. I wouldn't give up a single minute of all the time I spent travelling.

plane2catch: You really did have me confused as if you were at Northlands as a child in the mid-to late 70's then you had to be my son's age. If you're like me you just wish you were in your 20's. Must admit though I really wouldn't want to go back to the times my sons were teenagers. As the saying goes we inherit our grey hair from our kids. Mine turned out great but there were times I wondered. Chech probably is of Irish decent as many Irish landed in Newfoundland and with no means to travel on into the interior of Canada remained there. One only has to listen to the Newfoundlanders speak and you think you're back in Ireland.

My Italian Club will celebrate St. Patrick's day as always with traditional Irish food, this year is dinner and a show, a group will play "Molly Malone's wake" (not sure of the exact tittle, but it is an Irish wake. Happy St. Patrick's Day, and enjoy the planning of your trip to Ireland.
