Hey did anyone know that Hitler had a son? Just learned this. Apparently he had an affair with a French women when he was young. The pics on the internet of both the son and one of his grandson's bear a striking resemblance to him. I guess he has 7 or 8 grandchildren from this one son. The son uses his mother's surname. Also, learned that some grandnephews of Hitler are living in New York State but have chosen to hide their real identity and go by another undisclosed name. Hate to say this but I really feel for these relatives. What a burden to go through life with.

There is considerable doubt to this claim, and some people have pondered whether it was an effort to secure royalties from the sales of Hitler's book, Mein Kampf. The boy's aunt had met the young German soldier and said that he bore no resemblance to Hitler. And fellow soldiers who were in Hitler's regiment unanimously agreed that Hitler was hostile to anyone getting involved with local French women as this would be a 'dishonour for Germany'. It was also unlikely that any women could simply follow a regiment around Europe as has been suggested. With claims like these it's best to seek hard evidence and nothing beats DNA testing. A good example is the case of Anna Anderson who claimed she was Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia. DNA testing eventually confirmed the Anastasia fraud. In 2008 DNA samples were collected and these failed to provide any match between Hitler and the man who claimed to be his son. I would regard Sir Ian Kershaw as the best biographer on Hitler as he is renowned for sticking to historical facts, and only those that are relevant to explaining Hitler's rise and fall. As Kershaw thinks that the Hitler Junior story is improbable, that's good enough for me. But an interesting topic, nonetheless.
