I’ve never walked the East End of London, but my friend and I are planning on spending four days in London before our Eastern Europe tour, so we may do so then. We are hoping to join a couple of London Walks as well. I’d like to go on the Westminster Abbey walk, as it was closed the last two times I went to London, and she wants to go on the Jack the ripper tour. The London Pub Walks and Harry Potter Walk also appeal to me.

I spent many hours in Westminster Abbey, just went alone, amazing place, TT used to have have a tour years ago and I did it, going alone of course you can spend as much time as you like, there are very many helpful guides and you can ask anything . Loved the Poets' corner among other things. Any helpful tips for Amsterdam? Going there three days before the tour and staying at the Museum Quarters, hope to do a lot of walking there.

What tour are you going on? The Best of Holland or Best of Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg? During my extra day in Amsterdam, I went to the Van Gogh Museum in the morning with a person I met on tour who also had an extra day in Amsterdam. We spent about three hours there, which was long enough to see everything. We went on a Friday, and I found out afterward our visit that it was open until 9:00 p.m. that night. If I had known that earlier, I would have went there in the evening, as a lot of other places I wanted to visit closed at 4:00 pm.
After the Van Gough Museum, we walked along the canals, and then had some lunch on a patio. We then walked to the The Koninklijk Paleis and Nieuwe Kerk, however, by the time we got there, both were closing, so we only had a few minutes to look around the Nieuwe Kerk. I liked what I saw though, and if you’re into churches, I would recommend going there. From here we went to a tourist place to find out what was open after 4:00 p.m., and then took the bus to the Heineken Factory. I didn’t enjoy the Heineken Factory as much as I enjoyed the Guinness Factory in Dublin, however, as there was not much else opened, it was something to do. After that we walked around a little bit more, and then had dinner on a patio.
I’m not sure what you will see while on your tour, but I also recommend visiting the The Westerkerk, which is the site of Rembrandt's grave. Our tour director told us that Anne Frank would hear the church bells from this church while she was in hiding. The Anne Frank House is also a must see, as is The Rijksmueum (this is included with the tour, however, you only spend about 1.5 hours here, and it’s not enough. I recommend going on your own if you have time). A walk thought the Red Light District is also interesting, although I know not everyone would agree with me.

Thank you Tiffany, both museums are on my list, the tour is The Best of Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg and includes the Rijksmuseum, as you said, probable a quick tour so I was planning to see it on my own as well. My daughter will join me two days later, still one day before we have to move hotel and join the tour, so we have to coordinate, not sure if she wants to see Anne Frank's house but I do. Don't remember the name of the big park near by, but they do have concerts, and is about 1-2 blocks from the hotel, plan to see a lot of that, I imagine it is something like the Luxembourg gardens in Paris, full of statues, flowers. The tour itself has another three days in Amsterdam so we hope to see plenty. The Red district is not at all in our list, but I am sure my daughter will like the Diamond's place. I was briefly in Amsterdam about 10 years ago but didn't see enough of the city. I will google all the sites you mention, hope I can find them. Have fun walking in London. Thanks again.
(I found the site for Westerkerk, definetely a must!, I remember it from Anne Frank's Diary)

The people I’m travelling to Eastern Europe with this fall have asked me to join them on this tour in 2017, along with the Northern Spain tour. I’m not sure yet if I will be able to join them, but I’ve been wanting to go on this tour since going on the Best of Holland tour.
On my tour of Holland, our tour director added a walk through the Red Light District to the optional dinner offered in Amsterdam. There are some beautiful old homes in this area, and I really enjoyed our walk through the area. Our tour director told us that a lot of students live in the area because they can get a nice apartment for less money, because the rents are lower in that area.
I personally found our trip to the diamond factory boring. Unfortunately, it’s hard to skip as you get dropped off there after the included boat ride of the canals, and you can’t get back to the coach without walking through the factory. I don’t remember it being very long though, and if you’re daughter is into diamonds, I’m sure she will love it.
If you decide you want to see the Anne Frank House, I recommend joining the optional tour in order to skip the line-up, which can be quite long. Also, I noticed the one of the optionals offered on your tour is Kinderdijk Exploration And Boat Ride. I highly recommend that you take this optional tour. It was one of the most beautiful boat rides I’ve ever been on, and I would do this optional again if I went back to Holland.
I’m sure you’ll find a lot of things to see and do during your free time. You can spend a whole day just walking the city, and another whole day at the museums.

I did part of the north of Spain during the Best of Spain tour, and I think it will be very nice tour, I would go back to San Sebastian in a minute (check Owen's site about foodies in SS). I see in some brochures that the Eastern Europe tour has been shortened, I hope you get the old full tour. In 2006 I took two of my teenagers grandkids on the European Interlude (not sure it is offer anymore), we had one day in Amsterdam and took the optional dinner and red light district walk, we had a great dinner, but we didn't join on the red district tour, I didn't think it was appropriate for the teens, and with other people of the group we just stayed in the area and waited for the rest. (The funny part is that I did take the teens to the Moulin Rouge and its topless ladies!) We did the canal cruise, no idea which one, but the TD pointed out Anne Frank's house, it was raining and the pictures were not very good, I hope to take many pictures this time, such a beautiful city, that's why I am staying in the old part of the city instead of the TT hotel. My grandkids enjoyed the diamond tour, I know my daughter will as well. Thank you for the tip of joining the AF tour, I still have to do a lot of research on that, I just bought Rick Steves' book and his pocket book guide, I imagine I will find all kind of good information there.
Highlights of Eastern Europe will always be one of the top tours I took, would like to do more of the that, including Serbia, Bosnia, Romania, Bulgaria, etc. not sure if it's in the cards for me, hope so.
Looking forward to read your tale, hope you decide on the Northern Spain tour, the food alone, oh my!

I’m glad you enjoyed Northern Spain. I went to Spain and Portugal with Insight in 2008, but we didn’t go further north than Salamanca. I hope to get to go on this tour in the next few years.
There’s so much to see and do in Amsterdam, I’m sure you will keep busy during your extra 3 days. Since you’ve been there before, you already have a feel for the city. it rained almost non-stop while I was in Amsterdam as well, so I would like to go back again someday in order to see the city in better weather. We’ll see.
I’m really looking forward to my Eastern Europe tour. I’m sure it will be one of my favourites!
