Love the blue dress, btw. Thanks, lol! Wait 'til you see the red!! I know it's your favourite colour too! I'm not worried about things to do or see and am sure my "tour" card will be full. There are quite a few optional side trips to some interesting sounding towns. Just afraid that I won't have enough time to shop at the beginning, but I do have 3 extra days in Prague so that should calm my shopping addiction a touch! I'm looking forward to wandering Old Town Prague, sitting down with a beer and just enjoying the lights and ambiance. I am there to relax too!!

now THAT Sounds like my kinda holiday! I was going to offer my services as a drinking buddy, as I can't do 'baggage handler (bad knee & now bad arm) but then I realised -cold, snow, and decided my NZ sensitivity couldn't handle that at Xmas which for us is bbq and swimming! So, much as I'd like to share that limo and champagne I (and you?) will have to forgo the pleasure.

I would have loved to share that bottle of champage in the limo with you....maybe one day! Now I'll have to drink the whole thing myself........sigh Funny, I can't think of spending Christmas in a climate that doesn't have cold, snow, etc.!

You might need something heavier than a blue dress then.

Your earlier post made it seem like you were worried about having nothing to do and that you would have booked a different date.

I spent Christmas in Nashville a few years ago, and it as +19 Celsius, and it just didn’t feel like Christmas to me. Although I’m not a fan of winter and snow, Christmas just isn’t the same without it!

No, not worried about having anything to do, just disappointed that there won't be any shops open the whole time I'm in Budapest and I was looking forward to shopping for embroidery, paprika, "magnets" etc. I'm pretty certain I'll scout something out though, I was, after all, born to shop! In retrospect I may have booked the tour in front of the Dec. 18th one but I really wanted to be away at Christmas, I got what I wanted. I'm certain this will be a once in a lifetime experience....

Boop, if your desperate you might find some goodies to buy at Budapest's main train station, I've never been to Budapest so I'm not sure but the shops there tend to be open on public holidays.

Wow, that is a great site, Chech. Now I wish i had gone at Christmas. That market seems to be close to the hotel we stayed at but might be quite far from your hotel, Boop, hopefully you can find a taxi. I would think your TD would take you there. The strudel place we went to was very close to St Stephens basilica, the First Strudel house, they seem to call it but I am not sure that is what the name on the building is, something in Hungarian I think it was. If you go to Szentendre, they had food on the street there, including poppy seed cake, which is DHs favourite. If the indoor market is open it is huge and very crowded, it was hard to move, particularly upstairs where the have embroidery and other souvenirs. Downstairs is mainly food and PAPRIKA. We did not have any free time in Budapest since we signed up for all the optionals. They were selling those round hollow pastries in Prague, the smell was wonderful but our local tour guide told us the smell was better than the taste, so we never got any. I had palacsinta instead.

I'm droooooling............ I'm going to have to get one of those pastries in Prague. But, I'm staying at the Grand Hotel Praha for 3 nights and it is right on top of the Mozart cafe across from the clock, famous for its many, many pastries. I'll be stopping there after check-in, on the way to my room! Courtyard by Marriott Budapest City Center Hotel, hopefully is walking distance to the market that will be open. Trust me, I'll get there one way or another..lol!!
