Turns out Darwin's schedule is filled with a visit to the park, so no excursions. So, on to Ayer's Rock. There are only two optionals:
1. Sounds of Silence Approximate value: $195 AUD per person (4 hours)
At the Sounds of Silence experience you can Begin your evening with an uninterrupted, 360 degree view of the vast and beautiful landscape of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the domes of Kata Tjuta. Toast to what might become one of the most spectacular sunsets you've ever seen with sparkling wine and a selection of canapes. Dine under the canopy of the a sparkling outback desert skynight and feast on a BBQ buffet of authentic Australian delicacies including barramundi and crocodile, complimented by quality Australian wines and beers. Then settle in for some of the world's best stargazing , while your very own storyteller shares tales as told in the stars.
I have to admit that the only thing that appeals to me in #1 is the stargazing, so for a fraction of the cost, I can do #2:
2. Stargazing in the Outback Approximate value: $42 AUD per person
The Australian Outback is perhaps one of the best places on earth to explore the galaxy of stars in the night sky. The low humidity and minimal unnatural light in the Red Centre allow you to view the stars and planets like you've never seen them before. See the wide expanse of the Outback sky ablaze with countless stars as your star gazing tour guide takes you on a fact finding journey through the southern night sky, enhancing your knowledge of astronomy and its beginnings - guiding you through the evolution of the Universe.
