And as you're probably aware, Panama and Columbia are far warmer than you'll ever experience in Newfoundland. Expect 31 degrees C in Cartagena because that's what they average every day of the year. ... That's why their cats melt.

LOLOL. Yeah, I'll be a puddle on the sidewalk! I haven't even bothered to pack anything with long sleeves except rain jacket (and fleece...but that is only for the departure and return.) All capris and short sleeved shirts. And sunscreen! I've been watching the weather...30 degrees and humidex of 46 in Panama City there for a while. It had a lot of rain in October, but the forecast for next week looks good. I love thunderstorms, so I'm hoping to see a humdinger! I'll make sure I stay under cover while I watch.

Heh heh... 30 degrees C is a regular warm Spring day for us here - it was 31C yesterday and it's not enough to make the news headlines. When we get to 45C that's when it's newsworthy. If it gets too hot for the cats, there's always the option of mailing them to cooler Newfoundland.

Geeez, this place is going to be quiet with the trio of Chech, Tulips & Boop away enjoying their trips. I hope everyone has a great time away holidaying and $hopping.... I won't be gone that long. Just enough time yo see the poppies, take in a museum, do some walks and some Christmas shopping. I'll be back to post a report of my travels. i have read that the Tower has had crazy crowds this week with people viewing the poppies.

The poppies were beautiful however very sad to see. Since one poppy represents a life lost. The moat was surrounded by them.

Yup...I was looking for a lower cost one to do over the winter (while I save for Australia) and the Turkey tour I wanted isn't available until the Spring and the Insight Egypt tour that I wanted is still not available. Then I saw TT's Vietname flag post on FB and thought...hmmm....with the extension to Cambodia and the day in Singapore, it's still under $5000. Not bad for almost 3 weeks. (Airfare on top of that). Best part...none of the areas visited are high risk for malaria (which is why I'm waiting on India). The hardest part is getting to Vancouver from Singapore before Superbowl kickoff. Right now, the closest flight I can get lands at 3:15 and kickoff is at 3:30. LOL Cause you just know...the one year I plan a January tour, the Patriots will go back to the Superbowl.

I'm glad you made it on to the Vietnam/Cambodia tour. You will not regret it!
Just a word of caution - take malaria pills in advance to strengthen your body against infection. Malaria is still a problem up there and it would be wise to be prepared. Westerners are more prone to picking up this debilitating disease, especially around river delta areas and swampy country. While not rampant these days, remember it only takes one bite from an infected mosquito!

Yeah, I took Doxycycline in South Africa and it took me weeks to recover from it. I can't take anything else to prevent malaria. I'll be talking to my travel clinic but all the indications from my research are that malaria is a low risk in the specific areas I'll be visiting, so deet repellent and covering up would suffice like I did in Peru. I'm pretty diligent about that. In Cambodia, dengue is apparently the bigger risk in the tourist areas, so I'd be taking a full bottle of repellent.

Dengue is a problem almost everywhere these days in the tropics but you should be all right.
By the way, you will be amazed with the cleanliness of Singapore - there is no city in the world to compare with it. I hope you can get to see the gardens there or possibly the zoo - absolutely brilliant at any time of the year!

Yeah, I think we have free time in Singapore. The hotel is The Orchard hotel. The itinerary says we have an optional dinner on the arrival day with a meal on the river and a visit to the Raffles Hotel. The next day, it says this: Explore stunning Singapore. See the old civic district, the Padang, Singapore Cricket Club, historic Parliament House, Supreme Court and city hall. Stop at the Merlion Park and enjoy the impressive views of Marina Bay. Visit the Thian Hock Keng Temple before passing Chinatown. Visit a local handicraft centre and observe craftsmen at work. Proceed to the National Orchid Garden, located within Singapore Botanical Gardens. Finally, stop at Little India. The rest of the day and evening is at leisure. Any suggestions?

Chech - the Night Safari is located right beside the Singapore Zoo. There is a morning tour of the Zoo and a tour of the Night Safari, but you can easily do it yourself on public transport but have to take the metro then a bus. A taxi is cheap enough around S$20

Yeah, it looks like I only have the one morning there and that's the tour part, so I'd have to do it in the afternoon/evening. I don't mind hopping a cab and the hotel can always help arrange what I need.

Nice tour! Lots of two night stops so you get a decent full day in so many stops. And they split France into two days of travel which is nice. You'll have a blast.
