Lovely picture of the Matterhorn. When my son and I were there a couple of years ago we were sitting on his balcony looking up at the mountain while a jet plane circled the top and left a clear smoke-ring around the peak. It was fascinating to watch . Took some great pictures of this event. Have a great tour Chech:

I bought a really nice orange flavored chocolate when I was in Switzerland, but I forget the name of the brand.

Off-brand chocolates in Switzerland are my preference. I lived in a small village outside of Martigny for 12 years.

You people are making crave chocolates, bad enough that a few days ago, with the excuse of a very rare July California rain, I took a book, parked at a drugstore, bought some Lindt and sat there reading and eating them while my car was getting a free car wash...the guilt was not free of course. Enjoy them Chech, you'll walk it off!

Could someone please explain to me how the Swiss became famous for chocolate. I know they have cows which produce the milk or cream that goes into the chocolate treats but so do most countries and they must import cocoa which gives the flavour so there must be other reasons.

How does this sound purvis? One of the most famous first chocolate makers in the world was Suchard in French Switzerland who started in the mid-19th century with materials imported from France. The reason was simple - it's easier to transport the relatively stable cocoa bean to the best milk than carting milk, which spoils easily, to the cocoa importers.

Chech, did you pack a double of duffle bags for all them chocolates like I suggested? That is, if they make it home with you.
I myself like Lindt, especially milk chocolate one.

Quality and pride. Those are the two main ingredients the Swiss are known, doesn't matter what they make. The junk (produced by Hershey's, Mars) they sell in the US are simply poison.

Speak of chocolates, in my book, Belgian chocolates are the best! Try Leonidas chocolates and you'll see what I mean. They're are easy to find in Europe.

I love chocolate and recently ate plenty whilst in Belgium. Brought hand made chocolates in ypres. They were the best. Next best is my country's (new Zealand) - whittakers and then comes Swiss chocolate. Have been enjoying travel tale. Thanks for posting.

We haven't been able to buy much chocolate. It's too hot. It would melt in the belly of the bus. We've hit up to 37 and even wore short sleeves on the Klein Matterhorn and yesterday on the Piz Nair, I was warm in shorts and shirt. Gotta wait for the airport to get our chocolate.

If you love chocolate and don't want to ruin your health, stay away from those with high fructose corn syrup listed among their ingredients. Have fun!
