Nothing like having your flight book seats assigned and then the Airline cancel their flight and take away your precious window seat on the plane with a 2-5-2 configuration. I guess it could be worse once Air Tahiti had a flight schedule change and a 3 hour layover was rescheduled to a 10 hour layover. I was flying on a freebie to New Zealand so the change seemed more palatable. Read Chech's seat Guru assessment of the 777 and it wasn't sweet. Oh if only I were born with some trust fund monies and could afford Business or First Class. Nothing like lamenting. Maybe good old American Airlines will release a few window seats in the next few weeks and the fear of being stuck in the dead center middle of the aircraft will be a distant thought. Hoping to be like Chech and luck out with empty seats next to me!! One can always dream.

In March 2012, I booked (and paid for) Trafalgar's "Highlights of Eastern Europe" tour in late September 2012 plus all of my flights, two pre-nights in Vienna and a transfer from the Vienna airport and the hotel at the start of the tour and a transfer from the Vienna hotel and the airport at the end of the tour.
In early August 2012, American Airlines sent me an e-mail saying that my flights had been cancelled so I telephoned American Airlines and they apologized for the error; all of my flights were still intact.
Two weeks later, Affordable Tours telephoned me saying that Trafalgar had cancelled the tour. Since there were still a few seats on the same tour a week earlier, I had to reschedule my vacation, re-book all of the flights -- Trafalgar paid the Airline Change Fees -- re-book the two pre-nights in Vienna and the two transfers.
When I returned home in mid-October, I discovered that American Airlines had sent me e-mails informing me of 31 changes to my flight itinerary (times, gates, terminals, etc, etc).

Gary, 32 changes is a bit too much! I am headed from Chicago go Buenos Ares the Friday after thanksgiving. I travelled before on Thanksgiving day and it was a breeze with few passengers reentering the USA and going through customs. But I am afraid the airport will be like zoo with individuals already headed back home after there Thanksgiving meals with their family. One thing that did take me back by surprise is that the American Airlines representative did say that I could be seeing more schedule changes before my November 27th departure date. I hoping that change the aircraft from MIA to EZE as seat guru has nothing good to say about this plane. Wow, 32 changes leave it to American to do such a thing. Hope you enjoyed your trip enough to make the air travel headaches a distant memory. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I repeated the same tour -- Trafalgar's "Highlights of Eastern Europe" tour -- in October 2014. In January 2014, I booked (and paid for) the tour, all of the flights, two pre-nights in Vienna and the transfers between the Vienna airport and the starting and ending hotels. But, this time, all of the flights were on United Airlines and there were zero changes.

In 18 tours, I have been very very lucky. Not a single cancellation or change other than one flight home delayed due to a crew timing out. More than 120 flights and only one delay. Most of the flights have been on Air Canada and as much as people like to whine about them, they are one damned good airline.

Thanks for sharing your experience! plane2catch, don't worry too much about traveling the day after Thanksgiving, Friday should be a slow day, is not until late Saturday and Sunday that everyone goes back home; now, the weather is another thing, hope it doesn't start snowing early, that can cause havoc in Chicago.
