from those of you who have travelled in Austria, I would like some recommendations fr a nice Hotel in Vienna. I am looking at another Italian tour - inevitable as we did throw our coins last time! - it finishes in Venice and as ts rther close we thought to go to Vienna for a few days as we want to go to the Spanish Riding School as well as some art galleries.
As we are all the way over there we are then looking at a river cruise from Vienna to perhaps Amsterdam?
We are looking to travel again as we just lost our cat. He got an infection but antibiotics etc did nothing. He did at the vets on Friday 13th! Had an auto immune condition apparently that didn't show up until he got the infection. he was only 8½ years old.

Hi Solaria,
The only time I stayed in Vienna (Wien) was for business. This was April 2006.
I was told to find a hotel minutes from Wien Westbahnhof (main railway station in west of central Vienna). This is main station for trains to Salzburg, Germany, France etc It is a good spot for many tram lines and some Metro lines plus some buses.
The Airport shuttle bus did pickup and dropoff in front of station. Please verify 2016 rules.
The hotel was less than 5minutes down street. Yes, It did sell the "Vienna Card" at the reception. Yes, a very good choice buffet breakfast. Yes, dinner one night was a plate full of schnitzel + Very nice and safe area to walk into city before breakfast.
Yes, The Spanish Riding School was an excellent Saturday morning choice with pre-purchased tickets. We just walked in, past the queue and climbed the stairs.
This hotel is a nice walk or short Tram or Metro ride to Schonbrunn Palace.
