5 ~~~ What I Packed for a Cross-Country Road Trip ~~~ I've always had mixed feelings about cross-country road trips. There's an undeniable romance to zigzagging across a dozen states—pulling over for roadside lookouts and farm stands, bedding down at nameless inns and remote Airbnbs. Yet the idea of planning and executing such a voyage is daunting. How much time is enough? Which route is best? And importantly, what do you even pack to journey across four time zones and countless climates?
After many years toying with the idea, I finally decided to push those questions aside and take the leap. My partner and I recently drove from Los Angeles to New York, with stops in Utah's Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, the city of Omaha, Nebraska, and an island on Lake Erie, to name just a few. Now I can confirm that, yes, driving across the U.S. really is as spectacular as they say. I also learned that every route has its own merits, and when it comes to packing, you don't need that much after all. Just a few of the right things.
Below, you'll find the road trip packing list items that made my partner and I turn to each other daily and say, “I am so glad we brought this.” www.cntraveler.com/gallery/cross-country-road-trip-packing-list
