Hi, I was just wondering if anyone on this forum has any experience with Trip Advisor? At the beginning of February, Sherri advised me via private message that she posted my tour tale of Portugal on the Trip Advisor website (without my permission to do so) and she’s not responding to my requests to remove it. I’m unable to find it myself on the Trip Advisor website, nor am I able to find an email address so I can ask them to remove it on my behalf. I hardly ever go on Trip Advisor, so I’m not familiar with the website. Does anyone know how to contact them?

You have to join to file a complaint. It's free to join and doesn't spam or anything. Then you go to the review and you see the flag next to it and go from there. What is the link to the review? I can submit a report to say the person who placed it there did it without your permission and see what happens. (It's against their guidelines to post third-party reviews)

I did sign up, but I’m unable to find where she posted my travel tale in order to comment on it. She just told me that she posted it on Trip Advisor in response to someone’s questions about Sintra and the tour in general. She did send me the link below, but I still can’t find where it’s posted. As I never really use Trip Advisor, I don’t know if I’m looking in the right spot. I was hoping to contact someone there to see if they can help me locate it and then remove it, but when I search under “contact us” I get directed to the help centre, where there’s no phone number or email address. www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g189164-i1529-k7748865-o10-Best_of_Portugal_Sept_2014-Sintra_Sintra_Municipality_Lisbon_District_Central_Portugal.html#

the only thing I can see under that link is a post directing people to your tale via a link to thus forum so perhaps she didn't actually post the tale dire tly on trip advisor?!

Yeah, that's all I see as well - a link. I've read through both pages and see nothing that looks copied and pasted. Did you have an issue with the link being there?

That’s good to know, as she mentioned copying the actual tour tale (which would be rather long). I didn’t even see the link to this forum though when I looked. I’ll have to look again. I guess having a link to this forum is okay. I just didn’t want my whole tale to be copied and pasted on a website that I never really use.

Finally found the post with the link. I’m glad it’s just a link and not the full blown tour tale, although I don’t know if I like the link to my travel tale to be on such a popular website. I guess since it’s already “out there” I shouldn’t be concerned.

I don't think you need worry about the link there. It's linking to this site which increases traffic and exposure here but doesn't link to any personal information except what you allow in the tale itself. I would have no qualms if anyone posted a link to any of my tales in Trip Advisor at all.

Nobody should be stealing a travel tale and publishing it elsewhere. However, a link to this forum would usually be a satisfactory method of guiding people to your tale, and that appears to be what happened in this instance.
We have settings here that automatically insert a small piece of text with anything copied elsewhere. It directs that the full material can be read on the Travel-Forum URL that's provided.

Good to know Oz. I don’t mind sharing the link, I just don’t want my tour tale copy and pasted on another website, which is what I thought had happened. I still think that someone should ask permission before posting a link for something you wrote on another website, but I guess anyone who comes across this website can find it on their own, so it’s not that big of a deal. It’s already out there for people to see.

The thing about posting online is that once you do it becomes public. No one should steal someone else's work, but if they post it elsewhere and give credit. I'm not sure permission is needed. It's kind of no differnt than aharing a newspaper Article on Facebook. Don't need permission, just make sure credit is there.
its definitely not right to copy something and pass it off as your own work.
tripadvisor is a good site. I use it often when looking for restaurants hotels. I've written numerous reviews.

First time back in site in a while and had no clue this all was going on. It was a lousy day here so thought I would catch up on Tiffany's travels.
I have replied to Tiffany on a personal basis and posting here for all just to advise as already mentioned that it was LINK ONLY TO THIS SITE and the specific thread. I am a very security cautious person and wont even give out a phone number or email address without contacting said person first.
It would be a good enhancement for those of us here if at all possible to have a message sent to our personal email to say "You have a message on ..." etc as many other sites do.
Hope everything is all okay here now and again sorry for any confusion.

Just to advise that I have deleted the comment on TA with the link in question as I know Tiffany wanted me to do so .... no problem there. She has been advised by personal message. I have also set my notifications to where I will be advised when there is a message. Only good ones now okay!!
Personally ... I have spent many hours putting my blogs together and photo albums together on FB and want people to read them and enjoy them.
A lot of the ones I read yesterday were amazing and had me wanting to go to these places. Chech .... WOW ... I now want to do that tour as well. Amazing pictures and tour details. Thanks !!
Hope all is good now and we can put this issue to bed.

Trip Advisor is not trustworthy. It's main purpose is to make money - not serving the best interests of travelers. It's really a marketing ploy that has a strong flavor of deception common in commercialism.
