I'm off to Europe next year. April 28 I leave for Dubai where I have a couple of nights. I then fly to Budapest for Insights Treasures of The Balkans tour. After an extra night in Bucharest after the tour I fly to London. From there I will spend the next several weeks driving around the UK. Arrive back home on 8 June.

Wow...TassieD....that is quite the adventure! Looking forward to hearing about what is done in Bosnia. You'll have to let me know if they offer anyone the chance to visit Srebrenica. I'm down to 6 weeks to Vietnam. And I'm researching a tour for early April. Got a slowing growing annoying little bugger I have to get excised but don't see doc till end April...so in case the excision screws up May/June, I'm figuring I might as well go somewhere hot at the end of March/early April. So far, the Yucatan is winning out...and I can swim with the dolphins! Twice! LOL

The vote so far is 315 to keep it, versus 1 to excise it. The cats seem to have the majority ...

Yikes! That's downright scary, Chech. Presumably the anesthetist will administer an adequate dose of catnip prior to surgery....

No catnip required. No anesthetist required. I probably get more anesthetic when I get a tooth filled. This will probably be less painful too...lol.

We off to paris for globus tour end April. Then to ypres for a few days to look at wwI stuff. Then to England to drive round for a couple of weeks. Still deciding for our stopover in singapore whether we splurge and stay at marina bay sands. Would like to look at pool.

I’m going on a Caribbean cruise at the end of January, starting in Miami, Florida and going to Cozumel, Mexico; Belize City, Belize; Mahogany Bay, Honduras and Georgetown, Grand Cayman. I’ve never been on a cruise before, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m also looking forward to a break from the cold this winter!
I’m also going to Greece and the Greek Isles at the end of September.

I've been looking at their brochure and some of their tours look good. I've been terribly busy the last six months and still haven't started my travel tale of last June's trip to France, Belgium & Netherlands. When I write this I'll add some extra detail about Ypres because it was a very interesting place.

Sounds exciting, Tiffany. We went on our first sea cruise last February - the south Pacific. It was fantastic and we've now widened our travel wishlist to include cruises. Which reminds me.... I still have to write a travel tale on that holiday cruise as well. I never put any urgency on those two trip summaries because they weren't Trafalgar products (I didn't think it was appropriate to post non-Trafalgar travel tales on their forum). Here, there are no such restrictions.

Both my friend and I like to sight see and do stuff, and aren’t sit by the beach/pool all day long type of people, so there should be something interesting to write about. My friend has been on 5 cruises and loves them. I’m a little bit worried though as I sometimes get motion sickness, but she seems to think I’ll be okay because the boat is so big. I’ll be bringing some gravel with me though just in case.

Ah, I'd be interested in hearing about your stop in Cozumel. I just booked the Yucatan for end March. Even got Business Class on AC Rouge and a great price (and as many Aeroplan miles as I'll get going to Vietnam! LOL). I have a couple free days in Cancun and need to figure out what to do besides swim with the dolphins. So, I'm down to 40 days to Vietnam and 108 days to Yucatan. And they rhyme! Sorta...

Hi Oz-T we have been on a couple of globus tours. One east Europe and the other Canada through Rockies with add on cruise to Alaska. They were both great. Quite full on. A bit more expensive than trafalgar but we usually choose because of itinerary not because one is better than the other. I have to say that im quite easy pleased and so dont have many complaints. i feel just about all the travelling ive done has been wonderful so i might not be the best person to get an opinion from. All hotels were good from memory. Looking forward to reading your travel tale that includes ypres when you get round to it.

I've looked at Globus tours and talked to others on my tours and they all say they're pretty much the same in terms of how they operate and the hotels and that. The only thing that has kept me from taking one is that they have fewer dates so that if I want to do a particular tour, I would likely have to book it six months or more beforehand and that's too early for me. The Australia tour they offer that I want to do is booked solid well into next fall. The Alaska one I like is already booked through the best dates in the spring. So for me, Globus means more long term planning. Not impossible, but to date, not necessary as TT and Friends have had all the itineraries that I like. I am keeping an eye on that Alaska tour (as it goes into the Yukon as well) and may consider it for 2016.

It doesn't take long to get into Countdown mood.
18th April - 5th May, 2015 Celebrity Constellation - Spirit of the Mediterranean Cruise featuring the Gallipoli Centenary. This cruise also calls at Istanbul, Piraeus (Athens), Santorini, Naples returning to Civitavecchia (Rome). There is some free time in Rome but the highlight will be the landing at Gallipoli and complete tour of the Peninsular.
6th June - 23rd June, 2015 Dawn Princess - Northern Australia Cruise sailing from Fremantle (Perth) and visiting Geraldton, W.A., then on to Lombok Island, Indonesia, before sailing back to Broome. Next is cruising the Kimberley Coast (very much governed by the huge tidal rise and fall in the area) followed by a call at Darwin, crossing the Arafura Sea via Torres Strait to Port Douglas, Queensland, Brisbane and finally to Sydney. Returning home will be very open-ended as there is much visiting to do in Sydney and I also want to spend some time in Queensland.
You might smile at this, Chech, but you do have to book well in advance for cruises, especially to obtain the best cabins. I am looking forward to both cruises as they are laid back and there is only one unpacking/packing to do. There will not be much space to squeeze in much more in the early part of the year.

I have a couple free days in Cancun and need to figure out what to do besides swim with the dolphins. I’ve been to Mexican twice before, once to Cancun and once to the Mayan Riviera. While in Mexico, I did excursion to Chichen Itza (with a stop at the cenote ik kil beforehand), Tulum (once by catamaran with a snorkeling trip beforehand, and once by mini-van with a sightseeing tour beforehand), Coba (I did an adventure tour beforehand involving zip lining, rappelling, kayaking, horseback riding and a swim in an underground cenote), Xel-Ha, and Playa Del Carmen to walk their “fifth Avenue”. There’s actually a lot to do in Mexico, which is why it’s one of my favourite places to go for a winter get-a-way. I’m sure you’ll find something to do/see while in Cancun. I’m not sure what excursion I’ll take while in Cozumel yet, as I’ve already seen/done so much while in that area of Mexico.

Ah, cool. I'm looking at Isla Mujeres for something to do on my pre-day and the tour extension is to Rivera Maya for two nights with an optional visit to Tulum. Was the Tulum visit worth it?

I enjoyed visiting Tulum, however, it is mostly old ruins, so if you’re not into ruins you won’t like it. A couple of pictures are below.

I like ruins and that and that looks like a nice setting. The one thought is that the tour will spend a week in the jungle visiting all the Mayan ruins, so I wonder if it'll be a case of being ruined-out by the time the tour ends there. I'll have to weigh that with the chance to snorkel or zipline.

I'll have to weigh that with the chance to snorkel or zipline. You can always combine the tours. On my first trip to Tulum, I took a catamaran there, and then we had time to snorkel and eat lunch, and then we took a few speed boats to the beach of Tulum and had a guided tour to the ruins. The second time I went to Tulum, I combined it with a trip to Xel-Ha, an adventure park where you can go snorkeling, tubing, etc. The Coba adventure tour is also one of the best tours I’ve ever done while down south. We started out by going rappelling and zip lining, and then we kayaked to a Mayan village where we went swimming in an underground cenote, and then we had a nice lunch before going on a guided tour of Coba. The nice thing about Coba is that you can still climb the pyramid (at least you could when I was there). If you’re looking for an action packed fun tour, this is it!

I forgot about the dolphins at Xel-Ha. I went swimming with the dolphins in Cuba, so I decided not to spend the money while there. One thing to keep in mind if you go is that you need to give them a $20.00 deposit for a locker key and snorkeling equipment, which you get back when you leave. The representative at our hotel didn’t tell us that, and my friend and I had only brought $20.00 with us for lunch and other small items, as we didn’t want to travel there with a lot of money. We had to argue with them to get them to accept a $10.00 deposit. You also have to use eco friendly sun-block, which they try and sell you while there. If you don’t buy it from them or show them that you have eco friendly sun-block, they make you take a shower before going snorkeling. If I remember correctly, they were asking for $10.00 a bottle. Not sure how much it is if you buy it elsewhere.

Ah, good to know. I'll put a note in my travel book. I do use a non-chemical sunscreen that's about $15 for a small bottle, so I'd say $10 is not gouging. thx
