Interesting. I watched a Mythbusters episode where they tried five different styles of boarding and the back to front was the slowest. The fastest was the zone method that started with window then middle then aisle. Once they introduce the zone method, I imagine they can tweak it if they find it's faster to get the window people in first. Wonder if my Infinite Avion card gets me priority boarding....

At Montreal airport the other day, they had huge banners that the infinite Visa cards get you priority security. I didn't try mine because there was hardly any line up.

Interesting article. My friend and I were just talking about this on Friday, and he was saying that he thinks the fastest way to board a plane is to start with people sitting in the window seats, and then middle seats and then aisle. Hopefully this new policy will make boarding the plane a lot easier.

I was thinking about that method as I was getting on the plane and realized if they went with window/middle/aisle, they'd split up couples boarding and some couples really don't like being split up for anything while travelling. Wonder if they can do the zone so that if the middle seat was booked with the window seat, they'd both be the same zone. Oh...got free baggage to Toronto with my veteran's card here in Miami. I'm 300 miles short of my Prestige level (the Avianca portions haven't shown up yet). I'll have it by the time I land in Toronto!

They were talking about this on the news last night, and they said the same thing about families and couples not wanting to board the plane separately, which is why boarding window, middle and aisle wouldn’t work. I can understand not wanting your children to board at a different time as you, especially if they are still young, or an elderly family member, but I wouldn’t mind boarding at a different time as my friend, husband, boyfriend etc.

Yeah, separating families is an even bigger concern. Probably why they didn't go with the w/m/a route. The one boarding style I found moved very fast was having like three lanes - one for seats 40-50, one for 30-40 and one for 20-30 and one for business/priority...that type of thing. They were checking carryon bags this morning in Pearson, but not at the counter...at the security lineup. So leaving a large carryon with a family member while you check in would't be a way around it. Granted, the carryons size that is being allowed is a reasonable size. It seems the policy is really restricting the huge luggage-sized carryons.

It seems the policy is really restricting the huge luggage-sized carryons. It's about time there was a decent clamp down on carryon luggage. I can recall not being able to stow a small soft bag overhead as the racks were full of huge suitcases. This was on American Airlines - no doubt contributing to the shabbiness of their aircraft. The aisle was jammed as people tried to recover their huge bags.
