4 ~~~ The 89-Year-Old Rock Climber Maria Kittl from Upper Austria scales steep rock faces multiple times a week. She’s 89 years old. Maria puts on her helmet and steps into her bright blue harness. With quick, experienced hands, she tightens the belt and hooks up her carabiners. Behind her towers the Zwerchwand rock face, a steep wall featuring multiple climbing routes suitable only for experienced climbers. Maria looks up and smiles broadly. “When I see a steep wall, my heart starts to sing”, she says. www.austria.info/en/active-outdoors/summer/maria-kittl-89-year-old-rock-climber

6 ~~~ Winter Hiking: A Voyage of Self-Discovery ~~~ On a hike through Austria's winter landscape, you can hear the fresh snow crunching below your feet and enjoy the fresh air. The inns and huts along the trails are ideal for a leisurely break. The snow glistening in the winter sun swallows the noise and the roar - and creates silence. Trudging through the deep snow-covered landscape, through the Austrian national parks or idyllic winter villages, you will suddenly notice all the sounds more intensely in the winter silence: the crunch of your footsteps, your own breath, the gurgling of a frozen stream. The snow and the silence allow us to find ourselves again. www.austria.info/en/things-to-do/skiing-and-winter/winter-hiking
