2 ~~~ The world's 15 most spectacular inland beaches Australians are a saltwater people. Most of us grow up near the coast; when we head to the beach, we automatically expect to see waves rolling in from the horizon. Around the world, however, beaches come in many different forms. Lakes, rivers and lagoons all offer scenic stretches of strand made for swimming, strolling or chilling. Our pick of the world's best inland swim spots includes beaches that are sandy, beaches that are stony, and even a couple that are seriously chilly - but all of them are well worth a visit. www.traveller.com.au/the-worlds-15-most-spectacular-inland-beaches-gmgn5zMarch 2016

3 ~~~ Secret spots: 20 amazing travel destinations you've never heard of Every minute of every day of every week a Traveller writer is likely to be somewhere in the world experiencing a destination that will form the basis of a feature or cover story they and their editors hope will inspire readers. It's a tough life, for sure. Many of those locations may be familiar to the well travelled among us, but, occasionally, our travel writers find themselves way off the heavily trodden tourist trail. Traveller asked our leading writers to nominate one or more of those lesser-known places they have visited over the years, the sort of destinations that are likely to be unfamiliar for even our most peripatetic, geographically knowledgeable readers. In commissioning this feature, however, for Traveller's editors the nominated destinations needed to be not only obscure, but also genuinely amazing. www.traveller.com.au/secret-spots-20-amazing-travel-destinations-youve-never-heard-of-10jcasSeptember 2014

4 ~~~ Deadvlei, Namibia: The most photogenic place on Earth, for five minutes a day The dune isn't very high but as my every step sinks backwards in the sand it seems endless.
The sun has risen in a clear eggshell-blue sky and the shadow on the dune opposite is shrinking. If it reaches the base of the dune before I reach my destination then months of planning have been wasted.
The scene is the desert within the Namib-Naukluft Park and my goal is Deadvlei, a salt pan littered with camel-thorn trees that died perhaps 700 years ago.
In June 2011 National Geographic published a photograph by Frans Lanting that captured a surreal image of the dead trees of the pan silhouetted against a dune lit by the dawn light while the white of the salt reflected the blue of the desert sky.
The photo looked like a painting and attracted 500,000 views in the first two days.www.traveller.com.au/deadvlei-namibia-the-most-photogenic-place-on-earth-for-five-minutes-a-day-h1yv1wSeptember 2021
