Australia's extraordinary and vulnerable animals – in pictures Pre-eminent Australian wildlife photographer Doug Gimesy has dedicated his career to the protection and conservation of some of the country’s most vulnerable species. He gets up close and personal with exquisite native animals to reveal them in perfect detail. All these species have suffered big losses during the recent drought, bushfires and floods. All captive animals were photographed under close supervision from wildlife experts. www.theguardian.com/environment/gallery/2020/mar/08/australias-extraordinary-and-vulnerable-animals-in-pictures

56296 56360 56412 56437 56457 Ice ice baby: fishing huts of Lake Winnipeg - in pictures “The bright colours and unique designs really caught my eye,” says Sandra Herber of the ice-fishing huts on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, which she began shooting in 2018 for a series now nominated for a Sony world photography award.
The shacks protect their occupants from the weather and allow access to the ice below for fishing.
“I’ve been inside a couple of them,” says Herber, who was born in South Africa but now lives in Toronto, Canada, working as a librarian and taking photos in her spare time.
“People regularly open the door and ask if I need to come inside the hut to warm up. Not many people wander around on the ice; I guess I was a bit of a curiosity.”
