1 ~~~ Coronavirus at home: the Isle of Wight ~ Rough Guides ~~~ 21 The Isle of Wight – England’s largest island, cast adrift from the South Coast near Portsmouth – is home to an array of fabulous beaches, fascinating dinosaur-fossil finds and the hulking chalk rocks of the Needles. The Isle of Wight reopened to travellers on 4 July, who usually arrive by Wightlink ferry. We caught up with Keith Greenfield, CEO of Wightlink, to find out more about the island’s experience of coronavirus, and the company’s plans going forwards. www.roughguides.com/article/coronavirus-at-home-the-isle-of-wight/ ~ 1 September 2020 ~ + A guide to the Isle of Wight Last year, 2019, saw the Isle of Wight become a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, just one of seven UK sites to bear this prestigious status (others include the Isle of Man, North Devon and Biosffer Dyfi). This UNESCO status means that there’s no immediate threat to the diverse ecosystems which thrive here, across its high cliffs, wide marshlands and seagrass beds. Plus, with over half the island a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and zero motorways, it’s not hard to see why the great outdoors reigns supreme on this diamond-shaped island. www.roughguides.com/article/a-guide-to-the-isle-of-wight/+ www.roughguides.com/country/england/page8/www.roughguides.com/country/england/page13/
