1 ~~~ Brazil’s Fires Are Even Worse than Last Year ~ Conde Nast Traveler ~~~ Parts of Brazil's Amazon rainforest and Pantanal wetlands are going up in flames.
Last year, alarming photos spread across social media, showing the Amazon rainforest—the world's largest—on fire. The bright orange flames and dark plumes of smoke became a global news story as they ripped across nearly 30,000 square miles of land. But this year a new set of fires are raging, in both the Amazon and the Pantanal tropical wetlands down south, with less international attention. Those on the ground say these fires are already as bad as last year—if not worse.
