1 ~~~ Retirees Share Their Biggest Travel Mistakes and Lessons Learned (Video) They learned these lessons the hard way, but you don't have to.
Travel is high on the list of plans for many retirees. With time available for longer trips, retirees want to explore new places, visit family, and spend time with friends. Even experienced travelers encounter problems along the way, many of which are unavoidable. For those new to taking extended trips, cruises, or international journeys, there can be a lot to learn.
Travel + Leisure heard from retirees across the U.S. who shared stories about difficulties they encountered on trips, with the hopes of saving someone else from making the same mistakes. Here are a few of the lessons they learned the hard way.

2 ~~~ Expert Advice on How to Include Travel in Your Retirement Plans (Video) ~~~ It's not too early to start planning.
Travel is high on the list of plans for baby boomers, according to a 2020 AARP survey. Respondents indicated that they expect to take four to five leisure trips within the year, and about half plan to travel internationally in addition to domestically. Most said they travel to spend time with family and friends. Multi-generational travel continues to be popular with baby boomers, too.
Spending for the trips was anticipated to be around $7,800, according to the same survey. For many, whether close to retirement or already retired, that amount could represent a big chunk of their budget. Since travel is a priority for so many seniors, Travel + Leisure decided to look into ways of accomplishing this without breaking the bank.

3 ~~~ What Every Grandparent Should Know Before Traveling With Their Grandchildren (Video) ~~~ Multigenerational travel is a growing trend, especially for grandparents and grandkids. While parents may not have the flexibility to get away from work, grandparents often have the time and funds for a vacation — not to mention they want to create memories and bond with their grandchildren.
An AARP study indicated that over 50 percent of grandparents have at least one grandchild who lives more than 200 miles away, and about 30 percent live more than 50 miles from their closest grandchild. Travel is a great way to get better acquainted and develop a relationship with the child.
For the children, travel can be a time of discovery, both of the world and themselves. It offers a healthy change in routine — a chance to try different foods, see how others live, and learn geography or history in a fun way. Plus, simply learning how to travel, including navigating airports, trains, roads, and international destinations, is a valuable life skill.

4 ~~~ We Followed Our Dreams and Retired to Mexico. This Is What No One Tells You About Starting a New Life Abroad. ~~~ In the summer of 2012, Brad Johnson and his wife joined the thousands of Americans who each year decide to spend their retirement years living overseas.
They rented out their house in Phoenix, Ariz., got a six-month tourist visa that they anticipated renewing indefinitely, packed up their two cars, and set off southward, to the first of a series of rental homes in and around Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. “It was absolutely wonderful,” says Johnson, now 70 years old.
The Johnsons had travelled in Mexico before and welcomed the chance to put down roots in a place they enjoyed, with a lower cost of living that would help them stretch their savings. They had plenty of company: as of August, some 680,000 beneficiaries received Social Security payments at foreign addresses, the best way to gauge the trend of retiring overseas.
