1 ~~~ How New York’s Airports Are Going Touchless Amid COVID-19 ~ Conde Nast Traveler ~~~ One of the largest city airport systems in the U.S. is redesigning with a focus on social distancing.
Given how eerily quiet airports are these days, it’s might be hard to remember a time when terminals were so crowded that we needed new technologies to unclog rush hour chokepoints.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the sharpest passenger declines can be seen at New York airports. Air passenger volume in New York has been down as much as 97 percent in recent months, according to Rick Cotton, the executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees New York City’s trio of sprawling airports: JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark. The annual numbers for 2020 are sure to be well below the record 140 million airline passengers who went through the three depots last year. By most measures, it is the largest city airport system in the country, with more than 100,000 employees. www.cntraveler.com/story/how-new-yorks-airports-are-going-touchless-amid-covid-19 ~ 14 July 2020 ~
