I wish I knew the art of how to travel light. I never can despite my best intentions.. I love to shop when on holiday but I always seem to like heavy items like books. My last trip was the best ive ever been and even then I still had to leave stuff behind. LOL, as long as the stuff left behind was old holey pj's and underwear! I left a pair of shoes and some unmentionables in Vegas last February to make room!

I stopped buying books when I realized books I had bought in Italy 20 years ago had not been opened. And I have too many t-shirts, so I keep them to a minimum now. So, it's fridge magnets now. And I've turned them into a work of art by putting them on a magnetic white erase board and putting it on the wall. LOL....the 1st one my eye picked out was the geisha! I love red

I think it looks much nicer than making the fridge look untidy!

That's the best idea, Chech. I think it looks much nicer than making the fridge look untidy! Yeah. When I moved into my new house, stainless steel was the way to go for my appliances and believe it or not, most stainless steel appliances are not magnetic. I had a small magnetic dry erase board and checked out the local office supply store and voila! A 4' x 3' dry erase board with a wood frame. It was perfect. I have two of them filled.

Nice art piece Chech and a good way to put your travels on show to bring back memories. I don't collect magnets but I do buy the odd postcard with the intention of making an album out of them, but in the meantime theyre in a box hidden away.

I will have to look into that quite seriously, Chech. Stainless steel comes in many qualities and any marine grade is definitely non-magnetic.
At present I am decorating my new 'digs' at my daughter's house and will look at making such a 'board' in sheet metal as I have a huge accumulation of magnets collected over many years of travel.
There is painting to be done and air conditioning to be fitted next week then the floorcovering to be finalised before I can complete the move. The evaporative type aircon is good but Reverse Cycle is even better. Just a few chores ahead of me to keep me out of mischief!

I travelled Air Canada Oct3-5, Calgary to Victoria. It was a propeller plane but fairly large. I did not see them checking the size of the carry on. Ours were smallish but there were several larger carry ons that people stowed overhead. There was a shortage of space, there might have been Sky check. I think they were spot checking some a few days earlier as we saw on the news. Flying Vancouver to Nanaimo, they have Sky Check, it is a small plane and the flying time is less than 15 min. Just checked, it was a Bombardier Q400 plane which seats 74.

On all my flights from Nanaimo to Vancouver, Victoria to Vancouver and Victoria to Seattle, sky check has been available in both directions. I really like it as it's so convenient to drop my bag at the plane, pick it up just before the walkway and not have to struggle to lift the bag and place it in the overhead.

I agree Boop that sky check is very convenient, and I always use it when offered. The only downside with Porter is that you still sometimes have to wait 10-15 mins for your luggage, as it usually takes them that long to bring the sky check luggage inside. My friend just flew Porter to Toronto, and she was going to leave her bag with sky check but didn’t after I told her who long I had to wait for my luggage after my last flight to Toronto. She was happy she didn’t leave her bag with sky check, as the line-up of people waiting for their bags went all the way down the hall, and she was in a rush to get out of the airport.

Every time I've sky checked a bag it is pretty much waiting for me as I depart the plane and that is the beauty of sky check! On my last trip to Vegas I just grabbed my carry on off the sky check cart and made my way to customs.....while most others lined up at the carousel to pick up their checked baggage!! Vegas is the only trip I can get away with doing that though as I always travel light (and pack excess shopping in my companions bag)

The last four times I flew with them, I had to wait about 10 mins to get my bag from the sky check. Waiting 10 mins is not a big deal for me, it’s just that Porter fly’s into the Billy Bishop Island Airport in Toronto, and getting off the islands seems to be taking longer and longer. They are in the process if building an underwater pedestrian tunnel, but for now, we have to take a ferry, which is really slow. The ferry ride itself is only takes a few mins, but since more and more people are flying with Porter, it’s taking longer and longer to get people on and off the ferry. The last time I flew with Porter, it took me an hour to get to the mainland from the time I landed.

Unfortunately, the only solution is to take my bag onto the flight with me, which I don’t like to do as I find my small suitcase to be too big for the overhead bin, even though it is within the size restrictions. It can be frustrating, but there’s not much that can be done right now. I hope the underground walkway is completed soon so I can save time by not having to wait for the ferry.

I always remember flying with American Airlines from Las Vegas to Fort Worth/Dallas (very grotty aircraft) as Qantas had no direct link in those days.
Our overhead bin was completely filled with two full sized suitcases and the three of us had nowhere to stow our small carry ons.
Simple solution - reefed out the suitcases and left them in the aisle. When the stewardess arrived she just picked them up and said these will go as cargo, if they make the cut. No one claimed the suitcases so off they went, with no tags.
I wonder if they made the flight or were just sent to unclaimed baggage.

During short local flights I try to take two small carry-ons (and i mean small), so I can put one in top and one under my feet, I am too short to fight with a medium size. And it has happened to find the overhead bin full, next time i will do just that.
