1 ~~~ AirPano ~ Azores, São Miguel Island, Portugal ~ 360 Photo ~~~ 190 The archipelago of the Azores is a part of Portugal. Its name is considered to be originated from the ancient word "azures" meaning blue, or azure colour.
The legend, although, associates it with the word açor ("goshawk" in Portuguese), as if hawks flying to their nests showed the sailors the way to the islands.
