Hi to all members of the Trafalgar Forum. Hopefully, this will be an exciting new start so we can keep together. Some of the regular Trafalgar members may recognise similarities with the style of this forum - it's similar to the very first Trafalgar format. It'll take some time for us to all get used to this and work out how to navigate - but hopefully we can share ideas as we learn. I'll have a bit more to say about this format as time goes by. Oz-T

Yep, all pretty new stuff here, Ms Boop. It's a bit like moving into a new house isn't it? We will all be discovering weird and wonderful new ways to navigate here - I keep bumping into walls that I didn't know were there.

LOL........s'truth! I just hit "create post" to reply to you instead of "quote". I am loving this forum to be truthful. I like the avatar quality, the font size and just looking at this forum is really relaxing to the eye. Again, kudos Mr. Oz-T for, once again, "taking care of the flock"!!

Well, I did say that I'd been busy exploring options to stick together when the Trafalgar Forum closes for good. That involved quite a bit of starting different forums to check their functionality from both a user's and moderator's perspective.
I hope everyone is finding it easy (and even fun) navigating around here. I thought it'd be like this when I first saw it, but the real test is when others log in and sample it.

Just as a matter of interest, can we discuss other Travel companies on this forum?

Thanks Oz-T for all your work it looks great! It would have been sad to lose touch with all the Trafalgar people. This one should turn out even better because we will be able to discuss other companies as well.

We can test the transfer and see how good the transfer result is.

NB: Chech is taking care of her own Travel Tales. Hi Owen! Do you think you could transfer my Best of Switzerland (2011) over to this board? I would attempt it but I'm not a tech-guru and would likely destroy the tale in the process!! Thank you!! Boop

Thank you Oz-T for creating this new Forum. Although I did not post too much lately on TT, i did enjoy having a look at all the threads, especially the Tour Tales. Look forward to exploring in the days to come.

I like this board but I wonder how will new members of Trafalgar know about it after TT forum is closed? How will new members be able to post their questions on this board if they don't know about it? As much as we love to post our tales, we also like to give advise and answer questions. How will that work? Saki

One way is that unlike the TT forum, this one is available to Google and other search engines, so if someone searches "Bohemian Highlights" then the tale and any discussion about it would show up in the search engine. Another way is to link to this site in TT's Facebook page. For example, when I do my Panama tale, I'll post the link to the tale in FB for each day. The same with the Tour Reviews in the regular website. Since it only permits 5000 characters (too short for a tale), I would post the link and direct folks here. That's two ways I can see. And we'll see on Tuesday what shows up on the website. It might be another avenue.

Just as a matter of interest, can we discuss other Travel companies on this forum? Absolutely. This is a general travel forum and is not confined to any one tour company, and nor is it limited to guided tours per se. This is a forum operated by the members and for the members. Whilst the broad topic is travel, the discussions should be very flexible. For example, I went on a sea cruise last February, and in June we were driving around western Europe. I did not think it was reasonable to say much about either on the Trafalgar forum as I thought it was inappropriate to do so on a board operated by a specific business selling their guided tours. That would be most disrespectful to Trafalgar. We founding members here are all happy customers of Trafalgar. It is therefore inevitable that this forum will commence with a very strong pro-Trafalgar bias because they are a very good tour operator. As I see it, things will operate for some time as they did before: as a gathering of Trafalgar customers, sharing information predominantly about Trafalgar's products and broader travel information. In doing so we will continue to be 'marketing' the Trafalgar brand. Trafalgar's decision to close its online community forum may have been disappointing to many, but that is a separate matter to the tour products they provide, which I will happily endorse. But this is also an independent forum. It is not owned, managed or funded by any business in the travel industry. There is no reason why anyone can't discuss other tour companies, and it is probable that this will happen over time, especially as newcomers join the discussions. My vision for this forum is that it has broad appeal to a wide section of the international tourist population. I have a lot of ideas and innovations planned that hopefully will make this forum a popular and entertaining website.

How will new members be able to post their questions on this board if they don't know about it? As much as we love to post our tales, we also like to give advise and answer questions. How will that work? Saki Hopefully, it'll be as Chech said, Saki. I did give this matter some serious thought in the days following the first announcement of the Trafalgar closure, and I devised a basic marketing plan. Uppermost in that plan was to choose a forum that could be linked via Google, something I'd been urging Trafalgar to do with their forum for years. The rest relies very much on recommendation, initially via the Trafalgar forum. This should be very beneficial to Trafalgar because we are indirect spruikers of the Trafalgar brand here. There are several other ideas I aim to explore in extending the reach of this forum. But in the interim, recommendations are a powerful tool. The more you bring this forum to the attention of others, the more awareness of it there will be. Together, we can generate interesting topics and discussions that attract people, but the initial contact with this forum will need to be made via recommendation. You can help with this by leaving a link to here on other media such as Facebook or other websites.

Thanks, Oz-T. I have used Cosmos and Insight as well because I wanted to go to Poland only and they were the only 2 who had such a tour. I found both of them very good but Insight was better because it was a first class tour and Cosmos is the economy company of Globus.

Hi everyone! I found this forum via the Trafalgar one. I wasn't an active participant there but have read tour tales and various advice there from the time I first considered doing a tour. Nothing happened for some years and then eventually we decided on Insight because my husband is tall land we thought the extra leg room would be handy for him. Every time I popped in to the Trafalgar forum I thought it was a fun forum with lots of sharing and enjoyed reading people's tales. When I heard they had decided to close the forum I thought it would be disappointing for a lot of people. Good on you Oz-T for setting up this alternative, it looks great! Good on everyone else for supporting the effort that Oz-T has put into this.

Welcome aboard, Dell. I hope you find the discussions interesting and that you're able to join in wherever possible. I am interested in your experience with Insight Tours, so if you are able to contribute a summary tale at some time, that would be most appreciated.

G'day Chech. Have you noticed that the Trafalgar forum appears to have been taken down about 10 minutes ago? That means many non-regular members (or members away on tours) will not have been given a chance to become aware that the forum was closing. That'll come as a shock. It'll also mean that fewer people will be able to register here and contribute to promoting Trafalgar's tours. This is simply astonishing.

I think the whole site is down. Oh wait...it's back up. The entire site has been revamped and looks to be doing what so many other sites are now with all the social media interconnected. What members might have missed? Some of us are in contact via facebook.
