Hi all
We were departing for a 5 week trip to Europe (Trafalgar's European Supreme and a week in London beforehand) next Thursday. Unfortunately my mother developed bowel cancer and her surgeon advsied us to cancel. The reason was that he believed she would require chemo. Her oncologist has stated that chemo is not going to be utilised at this point (it would be oral tablets) and it appears the surgeon jumped the gun but it's probably for the best. We were very lucky as we had the Gold Seal Protection with Trafalgar so got the tour and airport transfers refunded. I had the 'free' credit card insurance (ANZ Platinum credit card underwritten by QBE) and, after reading all the bad reviews on Facebook, thought I had little chance of getting our airfares back. I also claimed for non refundable Buckingham Palace and Garden tour tickets. I was gobsmacked when I got our refund back (less the $250 excess)!!!!! Feeling very lucky!
My Mum's cancer markers have come down but are still high (as opposed to astronomically high before surgery). She has an oncology appointment on Sept 18th (and a blood test beforehand) and we have no idea what the markers will show then. So my question is probably premature as we don't know yet whether we can rebook but I do like being prepared Before I continue I'd just like to add that if I was reading this I would think what's the rush for their trip, surely they can wait a few years? My mum is early 70's. My husband is mid 70's and struggles with long haul flights and does not sleep at all. Neither do I but I somehow cope. Hubby thinks that he's got about 18 months to do this trip (which I have now added to) or it's not going to happen. I get that. We also have a voucher from Trafalgar that gives us a considerable saving that runs out mid 2019 (received for problems on a previous tour). So plan is go April/May 2018 or April/May 2019 or just let it go.
Trafalgar's European Supreme for 2017 was very slow with bookings and there were only a handful of tours for the year. Next year is already booking up and there are 2 definite departures for May already. One would have us in the UK very late April and the other 2 weeks later mid may. We would miss the May 7th Bank Holiday with both. It's probably neither here nor there but looking at which would have the edge. I've been to London and the Oxford area in early May in 2005 and it was an early spring and absolutely glorious but that may not necessarily be the case next year.
Here's the details: the plan is to start in Woodstock and have a day there to visit Blenheim Palace then a private tour of the Cotswolds and Bath over 2 days before heading to London for a few days before starting the tour. We would like to add Trafalgar's Best of France onto the end of the tour which would have us in France either the first half of June or the second half of June. Prices are comparable for tours, hotels etc.
Just thought I'd see if anyone has any thoughts
